Looking to check the engine is aligned (cams etc). I have read many threads about checking TDC via the gearbox peep hole. Not to sound to daft but can anybody show me via photograph or something exactly where that is on the gearbox
Its not on the gearbox really - its near where the two speed/position sensors are (G4 and G28) on the bellhousing near the flywheel on UK passenger side. Might be able to get a quick photo on line somewhere. There is a mark on the flywheel you can see at TDC which should align with that on the crank pulley and the cam pulley (and the dissy for 3B owners)
Had a look under the gearbox for this hole and still couldn't find it. Must be being thick. I have taken this picture of the underside of the bellhousing (I think i am in the right place).
I have also taken a picture of the cams and these look ok to me
and also the mark from the front cog
any further help to locate the tdc indicator would be much appreciated. Car is running very lumpy at the moment and want to make sure timing belt hasn't slipped. if this is Ok will post more details and ask for help.
@ acidburn. Could you expand the middle picture of the gearbox hole so that i can identify it on my car. I am having trouble finding it in the first place.
Hth's I was looking for the mark for a couple of minutes but you look thru the hole roughly below where the dizzy should sit and its on the side of the plate inside. Good luck with that hope the pictures was of some use.
@ acidburn. Picturs helped alot. I have found the holes now and my thinking is that the timing belt has jumped a tooth as the car is running very lumpy.
