    Broken Hall sensor?

I had problems with long cranking (and sometimes a "cough" during cranking) and only 1.3 of boost over 4000 rpm.
Changed rotor and distributor cap, drove for an hour, and after that engine could not be restarted again.
    Error I got was:

"2112 (Blink Fault Code), 00514 VAG1551/2 Fault Code Number
Timing reference sensor, (G4) (located 62 degrees BTDC)
Sensor malfunction, Flywheel pin damaged/missing, Mis-located Sensor,
distance to flywheel pin greater than 1.2mm (3/64 inch), wiring shielding
    problem for G4,
hall sensor out of adjustment (3B and early AAN engines only)
Symptom: Engine will not start, possible low power"

Since timing reference sensor was checked and was up to the spec (according to Bentley), I decided to take distributor off and see what's going on there: And here's how it looks:

Hall sensor (or just connector) is broken. Could that be the reason I can't start engine any more ?
If so, what is the best place (on net) to buy a new distributor ?
Or, can i buy and mount Hall sensor only ?

Also, pipe joint under distributor is broken:

What is that pipe for ? I don't think we broke it today, but I had no coolant leaks.

    Thanks,
