    running in oil

hi this weekend should be the time when i re install my engine and was just wandering what is the best oil to use when running it in.
I have searched the forum and found mixed reports e.g mineral v synthetic oil.
one name keeps cropping up though synta gold is this the best stuff for the job?.
I usually run it on morris lubricants multivis 10 - 40 and plan to when the car is fully ran in unless anyone has any better ideas.

    All help appreciated rich.

I haven't followed your threads but is this a new engine? If it's new I have always been taught to break it in with the mineral/conventional oil. Usually I change it about 50mi in to rid of any metal shavings in the initial, then change it again at 3k and then go from there. If it isn't new then disregard.

Full synthetic doesn't allow for proper break-in. Anymore than that and then everyone will offer their opinions

I always break an engine in on Castrol GTX

However prior to that i put cheap Halfords oil in it with a cheap filter, run it until the oil cooler is warm then drain down fit VAG filter with GTX. Change filter and more GTX at 100 miles. Change it all again at 500 miles then Mobil 1 (motorsport) at 3000 miles.

          Just 2 pence worth....

i did a 10-40 regular oil, warmed the engine up on stands, gave it a few pushes on the throttle.empty it,then castrol 10W60 new filter and drove for 2000Kms running in the engine steadily. Then a new oil change.and filter of course.

After this procedure, now i have almost NO oil consumption. In 10000Kms the line barely moved.it did,but it could have been 100ml or something.I took GT500 advice on use of synthetics sooner than what others suggest about minerals

What i do with fresh builds:
              GTX for 100 miles,
Drain, oil flush, new filter GTX for 1000 miles
Then drain, flush, filter & refill with your chosen potion( mobil 1 etc)

Mineral oil must be used on a new engine as synthetics are too slippery and don't allow the engine to bed in correctly.
