is that next to the mfts? if it is that would be the sensor and wireing for the after run/electric water pump to siculate the coolant around the head and turbo after the engine is turned off and if tempuratures are still high.

It is the little temp sender which is further forward ont he water manifold.... Has two connectors one live (so carefull sticking your hand in there with the battery connected!!!! We live and learn!!)

Nope, its further left than that... Its in the area around the front knock sensor.....
if it is inline with the front knock sensor. then on myn (3b engine) it is a bango bolt with a pipe coming off it going to the turbo for the turbo cooling. could be a coolant leek and the antifreeze has crystallized
