Turbo upgrades etc. Turbo newbie needs help!

This is my first Turbo car (not counting my Passat) and know little about tuning turbocharged engines.

    I have a few Q's:

    1. Can just bolting on a new turbo give an instant power increase?

    2. Do all turbos (petrol) have the same fittings (oil etc) on them?

    3. What attaches (oil, water, sensors etc) to our turbo?

    4. What is the standard turbo on my UrS6?

    5. What turbos will just bolt on without any other changes to my car (for power increase)?

    6. Is a hybrid turbo a hotside attached to a different intake side?

    7. Can I build my own hybrid turbo from other turbos?

    8. What is the best stealthy turbo upgrade?

    9. Will a turbo upgrade work will with only a homefry and better exhaust?

    10. If I am to upgrade the turbo, should I do this before getting a "turbo back" exhaust made?

    Thanks all

    Daz

To get the most out of an upgrade turbo option you cant really just change the turbo, as the ECU has no way of knowing you changed anything and will just fuel and control the engine as if you still had a stock turbo in.

I Bolted on a hybrid kkk turbo to a stock motor with free flowing exhaust and got some pretty good results but EGT's were far to high and lean running was detected when taken to the dyno session.

The K24 turbos on Stock I5 motors are oil lubricated and water cooled, 2 lines for water flow and 2 lines for oil flow.
The K24 still has a little more to give and with a homefried chip, or remap 280-290hp is to be had, Anything more than that sort of power and other engine componants will have to be changed.
Going with a Hybrid KKK/Garrett turbo means Oil and water lines will have to be changed.

Really need to Know what sort of power and torque you are aiming for before thinking of upgrading turbo, as Injectors, intercooler, fuel pump, exhaust system may well have to be changed also.

Their is so much info on this sort of subject which has been disscused on the forum you will be reading for hours

    Hope this helps.

      EGT's? What are they?

I don't wan't to change any other part of the engine. Maybe just the EM but nothing else. I definately don't want to have to change any of the internals.
I suppose I want around RS2 power or maybe a little more.

RS2 turbo and exhaust manifold are probably your best bet as they'll bolt on without moving the exhaust or changing oil or water lines. The biggest problem will be the standard S6 intercooler. It's pants!!! If I were you I'd be tempted try a homefry or remap before venturing down the RS2 route as it's such an effective, cheap and easy upgrade.

Homefry next week hopefully and an exhaust the week after.

Got to say the MD357 from Turbo Dynamics is by far the best street turbo i have used comes in early stays on longer..

Fits standard manifold there is some mods required for water and oil pipes but christ is it worth it... would be worried on standard rods though.. torque is insane..
