    Oil Pressure Warning

I entered the world of S2's last week and have encountered a couple of problems.

The low oil pressure indicator on the Auocheck flashes up above 2000 ish rpm, every time without fail. However the oil pressure guage is reading full scale when driving and 2 bar or above on warm idle.

Car has 10w40 oil (oil change this week to 10w50, 20w50 or similar) not sure that would make a difference as pressure is pressure.
Have noticed that the oil light which would normally come on when you turn the ignition does not appear, does this use the same sensor? or is this another fault?

    Any advice?

sounds to me possibly a faulty sensor if shows 4.5+bar on normal driving and 2bar at idle. Usually find that after a hot run 10w 40 might let the idle pressure drop slightly to 1.8 or even 1.5 after a serious session. I have much better pressure with a 10w-60 though opinions seems to be moving towards a 10w-50 as the best mix of protection and economy/performance.

The sensor is on the side of the block, usually with a rubber boot on it and one white wire, just below a can shaped oil pressure guage sender with blue and black connectors on. Look down the side of the block closest to the radiator and you'll spot them. Very likely that one or more of those sensors are knackered, probably with oil leaking out of them! Access for changing them is not ideal but do-able
    Cheers

is possible that the single wire sensor to be the wrong one. That is suposed to close an contact above 1.3 bar or something or just the wire loose.
      Hope this helps!

Played with the wire yesterday, abd yes access is difficult! removed the dipstick tube and wedged my arm in the gap.

Replacement part seems to be a fiver from GSF/Europarts, have I got the right one?

ia the oem part number for that.
But i will sugest that you check if the sensor is grounding over 1.8 bar pressure.
If over 1.8 bar the plug is grounded then the sensor is ok.
            Hope this helps.
