Already replied in your previous thread - maybe I'm not understanding your Q properly.

Sorry Paul i must have missed your reply.

I see what you are suggesting 72 Deg.

Maybe some of the Vems boys can confirm their findings?

What`s there to find ? 360 degrees of crank rotation divided by 5 cylinders is 72 degrees. For full sequential fireing you shoud have a spark at every 144 degrees for each cylinder.
Now you see me, now you don`t

Thats how I see it... 144 degrees is 54 flywheel teeth (if my assumption of 135 teeth is indeed correct).

So its not 72 deg between each pot like you seggested Paul.

It`s 144 deg angles between cylinders.

72 degees is right for the crank, angle at which the rod centre is found.

144 is the number of degrees for each firing point, remember 4 strokes rotate twice for a complete firing cycle.

              Me thinks, hoping i'm right.

                  no...

Engine cycle starts at 0 degrees, so the the firing on a 4 stroke would be seperated as:-

                  0, 144, 288, 432 and 576 degress of two complete cycles.

Flat on my back is correct with the 144 deg, i turned the engine over by hand to double check everything.

But because the second revolution of the engine is different to the first it means i have to run a camshaft sensor (awkward I5 engines, but sounding good)

You can repeat the ignition cycle every 360 deg on a 4 cyl engine, as long as you fire on the exhaust stroke too (wasted spark). Eliminating the need for a cam sensor( easy but not quite as sexy sounding as an I5 engine)

It shoudn't be too dificult to identify the 4 parts of the 4-stroke cycle eg. inlet, compression, combustion and exhaust for the 5 pot engine over the 720 degree rotation, for each pot.

You know the firing cycle so work from this, being electrical i'll probably draw some crayon pictures for myself.

Waste spark works just as good on I5 too. No need for a camshaft sensor

Please tell me more, I`ve been thinking about it and cannot see how it is possible as no two cylinders are at TDC at any one time.
