Ive got about £1500 saved to upgrade the engine on my s2 as it is now up and running, looking for rs2/n300 spec, there seems to be a massive amount of options availiable now!
Im temted by the 034 stage 1 kit, with turbo this comes to just under £1500 has anyone tried this setup on a stock aby?
Seems good value for money.
Personally i would change the rods first, i know this wont help with power but once you start tuning you will keep going further and further and sooner or later you will need to undo all that you have done to do the rods.
@djones - good suggestion as thats one thing i've got to do with mine, i've just been and got the rods already to make sure that the engine holds together once everything is bolted on.
Car is absolutely standard at the moment, cant really afford rods at the moment as the car needs a respray and a new interior oh and brakes and maybe some coilovers..
Ive read a lot about the n300 upgrade on here and other places, it seems this can be achieved with stock internals and the aby intercooler intact.
Tbh what i'd do with £1500 and a standard car is sort out the following:
Porsche 996 upgrade
Konis/billstiens (spl) and H&R's
Homefries
Boost guage
If you have anything left then an rs2 airbox/intercooler
As from sounds of things your after the power straight away and without the brakes done for starters the standard one's will not hold up to much abuse, my 3b had 280bhp and the brakes would not stop it.
Sounds like good advice. im in two minds what to do at the moment ive got a lovely urs6 as my daily driver the s2 is a project on the side, i could sell the s6 to fund a monster project but its such a nice example it would be a shame to let it go..
ive just spoken to the guy helping me with the s2 hes in agreement brakes and handling first. atleast it creates a good base for further mods.
Im doing similar at the mo, altho i need to get my headgasket replaced (am going for a low compression version) so im prob going with bigger Turbo instead of RS2Intercooler/Airbox.
What are peoples views on this as i can get hold of RS2 Turbo for £650.00 delivered?? Will be getting 3" Zorst etc to get most from Turbo..
Yeah IIRC everyone says standard brakes are good for about 3x stops so a chipped one might last 2 at the most. Its better to get a homefry chip, brakes and suspension as you will be able to arrive at the corner quicker, stop quicker and go round corners quicker than if you just concentrated on the power as it would more likely end in an accident and with these cars being rare finding another good example would be a pain
n300 - hybrid turbo + remap , maybe cost £1000-£1200 depending on where you find the turbo and who does the remap, spend the rest of your money £300 -500 on some effective brakes, don't make it any more complicated than it needs to be, you need to decide if you want rs2 spec or n300 they ain't interchangable, the difference and the cost is in the detail.

why buy old tech kkk when you can buy a better garret for less.
i paid 399 UK for my SC61. 250UK for my header. so i got a better turbo and the tubular for same as a kkk.
forget RS2 go 21st century instead
a bigger turbo will reduce the need for rods to an extent due to power being toward the high end of the RPM scale. silly power will need um though. std rods on a vw16v were rated to 360lbsft and they are the same as S2 rods. 360 at 2500 is a lot different than 360 at 5000. incidently 360lbsft at 7200 is just shy of
500hp.
