I'd be tempted, but only if cash allows, to go RS...if that was "on the cards"...as it's in bits get something 'tasty' done and have some fun!!....

Bloody AA....
You can definitely trust TAP. My car was serviced there by its previous owner and also by me.
It does sound like the replcement engine is the quickest and cheapest route especially with regards to paying for labout. It will be an in and out job for the TAP boys...
As already stated, keep the old engine and have it rebuilt and sold on again. Plenty of buyers on here.
All the best.
Let us know how you get on.
Cheers,

Is 20 hours too long for an engine swap? I am guessing it was ball park including messing around with the oil cooler and replacing any other parts required whilst the engine is out?
Doesn't sound outrageous to me, but I am sure there are guys on here that can do it in 10 hours...
cheers

LOL - very loudly...
In honesty I've not yet had the joy of an S2 engine swap, but I think its fair to say that 20 hours would be making a meal of it alright. To do it single handed in 10 hrs would be an achievement when you think of all the potential for phracking about with exhaust bolts, the umpteen wiring plugs, well seized engine mounts and such.
If I was gonna do it, it would be tempting to drop the engine out from underneath complete with gearbox, oil cooler, downpipe and subframe. Then strip down from that point and build up again with new engine in place of old one. Just a thought like - that garage should know best as they have a good reputation.
Big job alright either way - two lads needed at some point and of course the necessary lifting gear.Paul Nugent

haha, sounding like I should challenge somebody here to do it quicker for me. Seriously though, that was just a ballpark quote from TAP so it may well take less time.
In terms of upgrading, wish I could afford to, but bank balance doesn't really allow so gonna have to stick with the basics for now I think...95 ABY Coupe...back on the road with new engine/oil cooler and bonnet!Comment

And a magic wand,10 hrs my ****, its all right if the engines been out before, but you can spend a fare bit of time just dealing with seized exshaust nuts, if you can reach them that is.
Then there is logging all the bits and pieces, finding a way to get to the last turbo nut. It takes an hour to apply all the plasters you need to repair all your knuckles.honestly its a two day job at best unless your doing it every day.Comment
