    If your VAGCOM doesn't work....

You maybe suffering from a MATT DAMON moment like I was
Tried, tried and tried to get my pc to talk to the ecu, no problems with Com port , ignition was turned on etc etc, even managed to get vagcom to recognize it was attached, just couldn't get it to read the ecu, kept saying it wasn't there or something similar.
Then I tried testing the ABS - it found that alright...hmmm....strange I thought.
Then Matt Damon decided to leave my brain so as it would work - and I realised what I'd done...........................
    I hadn't dis-armed my aftermarket alarm/immobiliser :bonk
which apparantley cuts the ecu out (somewhere).
So after disarming the alarm - all was ok.
Now how many other people out there have done that, surely its not JUST me??
Please say its not just me!!!

    Not just you
I pulled the codes (or lack of ) from Paulgo's 3B on Sunday. Vag-com would "not" speak to the damn ECU for love nor money....until I told Paul to start the car. He did that........after disabling the Toad immo and hey presto, vag-com gets all friendly with his ECU

i never had any problems with VAGCOM communicating with the pc and today the one day i wanted to do some datalogging the freakin thing could recognise the cable but could not find the ECU.!!! No ABC or AC either.

tried with the portable data fault code reader. all OK.

so i tried to see what could be wrong with the computer. Does anyone have any specific communications port settings,as well as vagcom settings on options setup that needs altering?

so far i had no issues with default and KW-1281 ECU reduction. I actually managed to get through twice, but it keeps logging off from the ECU...

      thanks

Always need to set the COM port to 1,2,3 or 4 only. Your pc may be assigning a higher com port to the cable.

went back down and tried the 311 version. i changed the baud rates a bit and it seemed to be able to do some data logging.... thankfully
