Am I missing something here? Why do you have to have a flatbed truck to get an S2 recovered? Why can't it just be towed?

Towed? A No-No for 4wd cars. I think its ok to have it towed with all 4 wheels in contact with the ground. A defenite No-No if only the back wheels are touching the ground. That will totally *%@* up the 4-WD system.

Towing a 4x4 is always delicate....
Certainly towing it with one set of wheels on the ground and one off is NOT a good scheme and should not be done.

Even with all 4 wheels on the ground its going to be risky and damage my result....

Getting it on a flat bed is the best option.

Cheers Michael!! they do throw out some steam don't they!! ok, so next time I wait until the early morning to break down, good pointer fingers crossed on my rads..... we'll see.

I was always advised never to tow a Quattro, always insist on a flat bed, or they can pick up the repair bill for towing in with two wheels down! it can do some real bad damage! it's like you *should* always use exactly the same make and depth on all four tyres! if you had say new tyres up front and old at the back, the rear wheels are ineffect a smaller diameter and can wind-up the Quattro system until something gives way!!

No probs towing the quattro's on all fours! Have had to tow mine a couple of times recently

Martyn, you want to phone Audi and order one of those hoses, might be a bit cheaper than that VAGparts lot

I had the 4X4 towing problem when mine was being moved between the workshop, the jig man and the body shop.

The bloke who came to move, who is supposed to be a profesional recovery driver, arrived with an towing dolly. My mechanic took one look and told where he could stick it.

Ended up costing me £150 in recovery costs for three journeys (about 8 miles total) because they had to send out the flat bed.

Still better than god knows how much if the quattro system got wound up.

In a sea of cow droppings and informed guesses, the S2 owners clear a path to the righteousness of truth, justice and the first thing that they thought of.... then posted it, and looked like a prat :-)
