Good to read PDF. It is a paper about Mitsubishi 4G63 engine but worth reading for Audi fans also.

I'd always read that piston speed should not rise above 28m/s, but some of the relatively recent japanese engines were exceeding this "out the box", quite significantly.

I came to the muddled conclusion that rod ratio played a more important part than piston speed, (although this was strictly related to gaining higher rpm's)!

Will go over the paper tonight - cracking find! Hope I can get something useful out of it. Thanks very much!
