Sunday i'm gonna look at a 5 cilinder audi convertible. The thing is that the engine is crashed. So thats why i'm planning to install my 3B engine in there.
I got the harness, computer and engine.
Is there anybody who's done this before?
cheers

looks really good. I think I'd be excellent to have a 280 bhp convertible for my girlfriend
I think its a straight forward swap.
the only thing I worry about is the gearbox
I can't replace it with a S2 gearbox, I think. Or is it possible to block the exit for the reardriveshaft. and transform it in to a FWD gearbox?
Then pry out the old engine, put the S2 in. Replace wireharness, put in the ecu. replace X-member by S2 X-member. place intercooler. and connect pressure hoses.
Can anybody think of something else, maybe I've overlooked something?
cheers

280BHP through the front wheels, in a convertible? For your girlfriend? Are you mad?!
The chassis will be flexing all over the place, you'll never get that much power down through the front wheels?
I've seen that Kim Collins convertible though, it's a work of art.
Ex S2 owner, now running around in an A4 Avant quattro...
I can feel your concerns. But I truly think its manageble. The convertible chassis is strengthend anyway. And it has come on the market with a 2,8 l. V6. That's not one of the slimmest engines around
So I think it'll hold on, the thing I'm going to change are the brakes.
Maybe I'll just keep it on 220 hp with the stock ecu.
Thanks Porkkis for the advise on the trans.
cheers

Well, This project is still alive. All the parts for this conversion are now in my Garage. Engine, gearbox and complete S2 drivetrain with all axles and suspension bits . All I need now is a convertible....But first I need to put my new engine in the S2. Then I move on to the convertible. I just spoke to QST, he said that the only major alteration to the chassis was the boot floor pan, I need to weld one in from a coupe. Then it really is a proper S2 convertible ala Kim's
So to be continued.........

Go ahead - if you like scuttle shake - you might need a triangulated rollbar like the AC Cobra to give the chassis some more rigidity. It will flex like crazy...
Nice project though - the normal Cabrio is pretty tame in factory form, so going with an RS2 quattro conversion in such a body shape will really be fun by surprising other cars. Keep a 1.8 badge on it
I figured some braces behind the chairs and in the boot to the suspension turrets. And a brace in the front aswell. Then you remove loads of flex i reckon. Can't wait to start on this project. The engine that goes in there is my old S2 engine so I need to rebuild that, and that gives a good opportunity to transform it to RS2 spec.
