OK - With Garrett T34 (with some trick internals) I was achieving 404lb torque by 3500rpm. I repeat again, no lag at all. Miss that setup big time. The T61 I had 407 by 4000 reaching 441lb.
    Cheers

The question is more what shape torque curve do you want and where do you want most of the torque to sit in the rev range. Lots of torque low down is great every day, up top is best for sprints / drag racing. It's all a compromise and you have to decide what the car is mainly going to be used for, no point having a massive turbo to go to the shops and back or a k24 to go drag racing! Headline figures like bhp can be quite misleading too, again, it's the shape of the torque curve that really matters although bhp will impress your mates down the pub or Honda drivers...

Power is a calculated parameter and is a multiplication of torque by engine speed (with a conversion factor depending on units), therefore power is the rate at which the torque can be used. This explains the high power of motorbike or VTEC engines, lower torque but at higher engine speeds but no pull down low.

Basically it gives power just below that of an RS2 turbo but spools up almost as early as the k24, thus giving huge amounts of useable torque (and lots of it!) and very low lag. It'll just be a touch flat at the top end as opposed to the 3071 which is a bit of an animal or the 3076 which is the beginnings of silly power, perhaps too much for a daily driver (unless you go 2.5 or 2.6 and that costs £££).

The problem is that the bigger the turbo, no mater how well setup it is and how much power it produces, you have to have sufficient gas flow rate to produce the boost and therefore the toque. This usually means being above 3500/4000 rpm to get the car to really go, thus you have to work the 'box more. The more modern turbos are better than the old k26/k27/k29 hybrids due to lower internal resistance from the ball bearings rather than plain bearings.

Basic answer to your question is on a budget you'll not do much better than an RS2 turbo and just put up with the lag, approx 350 bhp with RS2IC, EM, injectors, 3" SS exhaust and a remap, slightly less with an RS2 standard ECU. Not that cheap mind!

If you're a little more flush then a 2871 or 3071 depending on what you want, top end power or driveability like a diseasel! 3071 really requires some stronger rods but sensible mapping can be safe on a standard bottom end although you'll not get as much power as others have managed (400-440bhp).

The k24 just can't flow enough up top to produce bhp, torque will always be good though and spool up is great.

A k24/RS2 hybrid would be nice but not sure where to find one and gains over the basic RS2 turbo might not be worth the potential problems of sourcing one and getting it mapped. S2Central was looking into this a while ago but I think it got lost in the mists of time...

according to my tuner the s2/RS2 would do an excellent daily driver at 450hp max on any setup that can achieve that number. After that, troubles begin because all parts needed will make the car difficult to drive everyday,or if less strong parts are used to be able to drive it everyday, then it is a thin line before extra $$$ is spent to maintain the car
