Poll: For those who have done their timing belt, what water pump did you use?

    Hepu? Graf? or ?

And did it have a metal or plastic impeller?

It's been ages since mine was changed and I have forgotten what I used, other than all metal. I had heard that the plastic impeller water pumps didn't last.

    Is this right or wrong?

Hope you can enlighten me based on your experiences.

Metalic no doubt. In the engine i have vas when I got it a metalic one with broken bearing. Impeler touched the block and started sliding on the block the result is on the picture. If that was plastic id would brake and timing belt would yust slip of.

On the right side is the pump with a broken bearing.

No idea what badge / logo was on mine but it was all metal... So was the original, and it was in pretty fine condition for 136k miles I must say - will keep it as an emergency spare - no play noticeable in the bearing at all.

I found some plastic impeler pumps wich dilatate more then the shaft and not pumping right. After my opinion..use the cast impeler, not the new cheap stuff.

Original = no idea (before my ownership)
Last cambelt change a plastic one was removed and replaced with a metal one.
On inspection, two of the impeller blades on the plastic one were broken off.

            Water Pump!

Recently changed mine when I did cam belt didn't think to look as I was new to the Audi scene, stupid really as It was a big issue with my BMW...

Getting a problem with her overheating now and wondering if it could be failure of the water pump.

The Temp gauge goes up and then drops to zero when I have been driving for a while!

Sometimes comes back intermittently then drops again but generally its running hotter than it should be.

            Any Ideas anyone??

maybe thermostat stuck open that could cause the the gauge to drop when your driving but it wont cause it to overheat

When i changed my waterpump last year because the bearing had gone and was making hell of a knocking noise i removed a metal impellered 1 and fitted a plastic one, it is a genuine audi part from audi and when i ordered it it was on back order for a week
