    Car won't start?????

    Hey guys....

Just been out to get myself over to rugby and the car won't start... Turns over just doesn't fire up....

    Thoughts

    It all was fine yesterday....

It's too dark for me to go at it now and the car is parked right up against a skip on the drive so it is hard to work on it even more.....

WHat I do know is I need to empty the catch tank....

Other than that I am a bit perplexed as to why it just won't fire up. It tried to then just turned over..???? There is half a tank in the car so fuel should be no problem......

Pointers and what to look for tomorow other than spark..

    Cheers

Check you can hear the fuel pump relay and there is fuel getting to the front.
      Is the dizzy gear metal?

Seems to be quite a few cars lately that have starting problems.

Right been out, pulled all fuses and checked them, The fuel pump relay is clicking on. Have spark to.....

Tries to fire but just doesn't..... Thoughts please guys?

Oh yes, checked as many connections as I can get my hands to and have given all a spray with WD40 just in case there was some moisture in there. Battery is getting low now so need to find the good old battery charger before I try to start it again.....

            Confusing this... Any other idea's??

Use contact cleaner not WD 40

sorted it!!!!!! My mate came round with a truck starter which he uses on his scooby. Just needed a big power increase, think the alternator must be on the way out, Noticed that running it is only hitting 12 - 13 volts so needs a bit of looking at there me thinks. You just never think it is the battery when it turns but won't fire... Especially when you prove that you are getting spark. Did run very rough (as in not on all cyl) for about 3 mins then it just sorted itself out. Running fine now but very backfirey on gearchange...... Hmmmmm
Time to sort out vagcom methinks so a trip to see the wizard is def in order.....

Spark plugs are dirty. Remove them and clean with an wire brush. At mine that was the problem.

Mine also played up in a similar fashion, didn't like starting, sometimes would crank for ages and nothing.... sometimes would crank and kick back on its self.

Ok once started. Turned out to be the starter motor. Naturally it was the last thing i tried.... immediately spot on once changed and still is..

Will drop the plugs and give them a clean, won't be helping with the fact that it is running a bit rich atm

iff is runing rich then you can have what is called spark plug fouling. I hope i said corect!
                              Hope you sort that out!
                              All the best!
