Based on those factory diagrams, their error was showing the ground pin at the outside end rather than one in from the end, as shown in the X-ray.

Easiest road speed signal source is under the back seat where the rear dif steering box wire connector is. Rear dif lock steering is speed dependant and therefore the speed signal is there also available.

Here is the view for all to see:

Note how the third pin from the top on the right side (4 pin side) is the ground for all three internal chips. You can also see how the power flows from the four pin side pins through the respective chips (transistor/switches) through to the three pin side and then on to the OE coils.

Jees...

Looks like the old AAN training handbook was right and I had put too much trust in the Erwin schematics - especially has three variations of them all agreed - and are all wrong.

Oki already have that for my CC so that should be no problem

The source is pin 18 from the BLUE connector at rear of instriment cluster... not much room there to splice in a new connection - follow the wire on your 3B to the wiring panel at drivers footwell and you should have more room. If you have ambient display then there is good space for a new splice on that wire.

VSS comes from speedometer - its a blue/white pin that goes to places like the rear diff controller, the ambient temp display amongst other things...

Where do one get the VSS signal from?

Also as I read it I dont need any new sensor according to the schematics?

I documented this back in Sept. 2005:

SO the updated pinout spreadsheet I have now looks like this... It should now align 100% with TommyRS unless someone spots any other clangers.

I need to update my website with this info now.

Right then - the plot thickens - and hopefully resolves soon... Had a look at martynf's old thread about wiring for coil packs --->

This shows that 4 & 5 are incorrectly shown in the Bentley AAN schematics and the ERwin ABY/ADU schematics.

Martyns info would align to Cyl 1 POS from ECU pin 1 if the pin numbers on the schematics are wrongly assigned.

If you transpose the sense of pin1 I1 and I3 on the Erwin schematics that I have then all the moons ot TommyRS, MartynF, UrS4boy & S2central line up with this -->

    ECU #01 - POS #1
    ECU #02 - POS #2
    ECU #23 - POS #3
    ECU #20 - POS #4
    ECU #21 - POS #5

I'll double check and annotate some corrections to the ABY/ADU schematics that I have up at www.s2central.net - if someone used those without any other insight for wiring they could be in for a bad day of fault finding.

Something is definitely amiss with the official schematics - the pin numbers called out on each POS connection don't line up properly. It is inconsistent.

This probably explains why I got confused looking at some scope traces a while back when investigating the solid-state distributor project - the POS triggers didn't line up in firing order with what I saw on screen but just figured I had a typo somewhere.

I'll get a look at the audiworld thread and hope that nails it...

The only thing on the ABY/AAN loom to note is that the BROWN colored 4-pin plug is POS inputs for 1-2-3 and the BLACK 4-pin plug is POS inputs for 4 & 5.
