    Damaged Water Hose!

Can't believe it.. could have been worse though!! Drove into town a couple of weeks ago and was just parking up/manouvering into a bay when I noticed steam coming from under the bonnet. As I was just about parked up anyway I switched off engine immediately and popped the bonnet. Steam and water spraying about everywhere. Reservoir tank empty and I was fearing the worst!

I got her towed to my local Audi specialist who informed me the water hose had a hole in it through wear and tear. The part number is 8A0 121 101 D and cost £95 + Vat. 3 hours labour at £32 an hour, total bill was £238! No engine damage luckily and everything ok. Has anyone else had this happen to them?
    Missing her lots!

That's the main hose from the top back of the rad to the water manifold? I haven't, but know a few (3) others who have. Seems to be a common one to go....and expensive at that too

3 hours to fit a water hose.

I've replaced a couple of pipes that had seen better days, all part of the fun of 10+ year old cars I'm afraid. Good stuff you didn't do any damage other than to your wallet.

Andy - Hmmm, 3 hours labour was crazy, pleased anyway no long term damage!

Topsparky - a.n.a.l. surgery sounds about right from my local stealer! Don't use them much but panicked!!

S2ale - Couldn't believe the cost of hose! Need to meet up with you guys to gain some tips and money saving ideas!

Matt D - Unfortunatley i'm not mechanically inclined so need people to do these jobs. Come to think of it I need 2 front bushes. Any ideas on where/price?

Many thanks for replies everyone.. appreciated..

Id say always try the forum first. I for one have that hose spare kicking around and I'm sure others that have swapped to samcos have too.
                  And 3hours labor! WTF??

Anyway, i bet your chuffed that you walked away with out any damage but if i were you id question that invoice or at least have a word with the mechanic that fitted it. Unless it includes them toeing you back and plunging in Vagcom to find out where the water was leaking from...
