Well ****me! There is life in frankenstein! It's running pretty nicely now, can just sense a slight miss, but it fires up, idles normal, sounds as it should, all good...As mentioned before we went through the process of eliminatingw what could be the cause of the car not even starting up now, all the ingredients were there, but couldnt figure out why it just wasn't coming together. We were all ready to strip the alarm, assuming it was somehow preventing it from starting, but as they say assumption is the mother of all ****ups.

Before we done that, by chance we took out the spark plugs, we've checked for sparks earlier, and it was fine, but never actually took the plugs out. Took them out, they were drained, gave them a good clean up, heated the ends and stuffed them back in. VOILA! It done the trick, well happy that's sorted. Just need to get a few vacuum pipes, and the rest of servicing bits and bobs

Thanks for all the ideas, top people!

After looking for some un answered question on the S2, we found something! Previously a mechanic at a garage took off the intercooler, and he just left one side hanging, there was nothing to keep the pipes secure.

After sorting this out, the car wont even start up now. Checked the plugs, coil, and changed the MAF. Still nothing, it started up fine befire, with funny idle and spluttering, but since yesterday for no apparent reason it just wont fire up. Its turning, it wants to start but nothing. Fuel pump seems to be working, everything looks in order, nothing that should prevent it from firing up. The clifford alarm system is on our list to remove today. Its one of the older systems Clifford 300 and something or other.

Cant edit the above post.. just to clear things up, i dont know what was going through my mind when i wrote the previous reply... i should have wrote the new pump has 3 WIRES and the original has 2 WIRES, the pins are still two on both versions..

^Thanks mate, i think the one on my car has a 3 pin connection. I got another pump from a scrappies off some other VW/Audi, looked pretty much the same. Only thing is it has a two pin connection. Or i've got it a tad mixed up and the car has 2 pin and the pump has 3 pin. Either way would it be advised to take up the soldering iron and frankenstein this b-itch?

If you are talking about the auxiliary water pump (aka the afterrun pump) - two pipe connections and a 2-pin connector for the S2 application then you need to specify it as 034-965-531-C. Roughly 90 quid plus VAT at a dealer but I dare say VAGparts.com can beat that easily. I see it at £69 now but should be cheaper with forum discount -

^I'm pretty sure the one they gave is not the same sa the one in the car, just a matter of a different plug. If not maybe a DIY plug change should do the job. Do you have anymore info on what type of transporter it was? Engine size etc. Cheers

I'm pretty sure I got mine from Europarts, and it fitted fine, ISTR there were 2 types though, maybe the one that works is the VW Transporter one?

Don't bother dealing with them as people are having bad problems with parts from them (check out gt500's thread about his psp pump)

Use vagparts if you can as its generally either just as cheap/cheaper, right first time and genuine parts.

These guys are seriously taking the biscuit at GSF and Europarts now. I've had to order to auxilliary water pumps now and they both have a modified plug. They dont supply the original plug type, is there any way round this? Does anyone know why it's modified?

Wrong again i think what i'm talking about is the auxillary water pump/valve. I've ordered it and its going to cost just under 70 pounds. I hope that'll be the end of the water leak, next step is to get the car going.

I've been ringing around for a pump, and ended up getting it reconditioned for £80 with 12 months guarantee. GSF wanted near £140 iirc. Europarts was about £120. Should be gettin the recon'd pump back today...

And thanks Greg, i've got someone coming to look at the car after the pump is fitted and then if we cant figure anything out i'll be sure to drop you a PM, i'm not far from Sandy...in Luton

Also i've been told i need a electronic water valve? is that the correct name? It's leaking water at the mo.

Drop me a pm if you need a hand, but prob wont have too much time until sat morning

Am i looking for ones from any 2.2 20vt engine eg from the RR quattro, ABY and 3b s2, and the early s4 and s6's? Or will any other ones from a coupe/cabrio be the same?
A bit of info regarding the p/s pump, i'm led to believe that the pump is dependant on engine code i.e 3B, ABY, part no's are in link.

I've been on the look out for an ABY pump for a while now hence the link, phoned various breaking s2 ad's, they seem to be quite hard to locate.
New are iro £450 GSF do a p/p for £150 but are crap, check out GT500's recent thread on his ski trip, that was the second one Rob had tried.
Good luck in finding a s/hand one.
