    Killed my engine?

First of all I'm glad you're around everytime I have trouble with my S2.
Got quite a lot of help on this forum in the past.
And I will tell you the long story of my two stolen S2, if you are interested?

But now to the point. I did the head gasket by myself, the first time at all.
I was a proud I had the engine parts together again, but I made at least four mistakes:
1 I did not drain the water out of the block at first
2 I did not drain the oil (mistake?)
3 Too proud I ignored the way too high oil level
    4 I started the engine

The engine started at once, revved smoothly on idle, and then stalled, along with my heart.

I drained the oil/water stuff out and filled new oil in.
I revved the engine with the starter and without ignition a while
Again, I drained the oil/water stuff out and filled new oil.
I revved the engine with the starter and without ignition a while
as the oil level went lower, i filled up to the upper mark.
I revved the engine with the starter and without ignition a while
and with a constant oil level, I gave it a new start - 3 seconds idle, and then it stalled again.

I compared the new oil with the stuff that is in now, I can't see/feel any difference.
So I believe the oil is more or less ok now.
The blink codes give me a 4-4-4-4, no electrical faults so far.
As I didn't touch the fuel lines I don't expect a fault there (btw the pump is somewhat new).
I did the ecu power on self test, everything clicked nicely.

What do you think? Am I on the right way now?
Or has the engine to be disassembled to bits?

Do you think the lubrication is ok now and I do not have to expect any (further) damage of the engine? What should I do next? I would go to church if that helps??

    Any hints?
    Stephan

I won't claim to know much about ABYs, but sounds like a sensor problem of some sort to me.

      Thanks for your reply!
I agree, my search on the forum makes me believe that it may be a leak in exhaust or intake, or a fuel problem. I am scared if I will do severe damage to the engine if I turn it on again? Can I read your mail in that way that _you_ won't be scared turning it on again?

This does NOT sound ideal, but it may not be the disaster you fear, although I am a bit worried that you started the engine with some water in the oil - it depends how much water made it into anywhere important.

So, assuming you are confident that oil and water is now good - you will need to do some compression tests.

Such a gauge is not expensive - test with camshaft sensor disconnected to prevent any chance of spare... Remove all spark plugs first, then test each cylinder with throttle body fully open. You should have similar readings across all cylinders.

Actually before compression tests - what is your oil pressure guage showing when you cold crank the engine ? That is a pretty good indicator that you are pumping oil and not water

The reason it maybe stalled is because of loose or forgotten connections to the MAF, throttle body body, ISV, ground posts or whatever... Check all electrics are tight and clean.

The oil pressure was at about 5 bar, even on the very first try with the stuff in.
I will do the compression test now first I think, that gauge was on my list anyway..
One thing is, the afterrun pump does not run when I turn the ignition. I will check..

          Many Thanks!

The afterrun pump should just whirr for a few seconds after you turn on the key... Its not going to interfere with the more important tests though.
