    90q 7a engine prob??

hi i hope someone could shed some light on this...

i spoke to a guy that has a H reg 90q with a problem regarding the distributor.
the plastic dizzy gear broke so he towed it to his house and put a new one on but it wouldnt start??

he put a new bosch dizzy on and still nothing... the codes have been pulled and all it comes up is the timeing is out so he got that checked and it aint that... there is power going to the dizzy but he said nothing is comeing out to the plugs??

i asked him if the leads were ok... he said thay should be, it was running fine until he changed the dizzy then nothing??

is there any common problems with the 7a engines?

is there any way to change the dizzy to coil packs or something similar?

    addvice much appreciated

    cheers adam

    disi

You need to be pretty accurate when setting up the distributer. Setting up TDC using the flywheel mark and double checking by removing No1 spark plug and placing a straw or similar in to sit on the piston. Once you have TDC insert the distributer so that with it inserted the centre of the rotor is dead centre with the notch on the housing. Assuming the disi plug and cable were not damaged and and on turning the crank by hand one revolution the distributor can be seen to turn too, it should start. If not it will require some more in depth testing. Good luck.

If you do a search for robotron there is a thread he started with this problem and I uploaded pictures of the timing marks to his thread

        addition

Forgot to add that the cams have to be in the right position too. The 2 dots have to perfectly aligned with the face of the head (both valves shut) as well as the piston at TDC. only then set up distributer as per original post.

If he hasn't touched anything else, then either the distrubutor isn't positioned correctly, or the hall sender isn't plugged in.

Check here for all timing marks. As said, all the marks have to be spot on.
The cams should still be timed correctly, unless he has removed them.

apart from the timing would there be any other reason why she wont start? (just to make shure nothing else is stoping it)

              .

If the TDC reference pin on the flywheel has dropped off, it wont start either.
