    Oil woes....

Hi guys, While I remeber just a quicky

Oil pressure guage is suddenly reading 3.5bar instead of 5 at 4000rpm, not showing 5 at first start either. Checked the oil level and that is all cool. Without delving any further. Thoughts on solutions

    Oil pressure switch?
    Oil Pump?
Spilt line somewhere (but that would show a quick drop in oil level)???
Perhaps head gasket?? (but the car would white smoke and show oil level drop too)??

    Help.......

Want to get it sorted asap and by me as I am iminently moving house as it is now sold (got to keep the old girl going for a few more months before I can spend a load on her to sort her once and for all!!!)

    Oil pressure switch?
Try swapping it for another one (if you have the option)

    Oil Pump?
Very rarely fail, but there is a presure releif valve in there, the spring may be getting soft.

Like you say, you would see some signs of oil somewhere

My guess would be (if Oil pressure switch was not at fault)
the strainer (filter mesh) at the end of the oil pump pick up pipe has become partly blocked, if it is this the only solution is to drop sump.remove and clean out filter mesh in petrol.

my CQ does this too Az.
      Gauge won't read over 3.5bar

I had thought the gauge sender might be at fault but I've not looked into yet really...
I also get the occasional low oil level warnign even though its up to the max level
Was thinking of changing all the oil related sensors one by one to try and find the problem but not got around to it yet. I'm fairly sure its just seeing low pressure, not actually got low oil pressure but no real way to tell. Sounds healthy enough.
