rear main oil seal help please...!

    Hi guys,
I need a pointer from anybody who has done this successfully......
I replaced the main rear oil seal when I did the clutch about 4 months ago, then suddenly I started losing alot of oil, and the culprit seems to be the same oil seal which might have pooped out a little...
I believe I am right in saying that the seal from Audi comes with the casing, and to fit this you need to remove the sump, which requires the subframe to be dropped, etc etc... I replaced just the seal on mine.....
what does everybody do? is it possible to glue this seal in place with some super duper sticky stuff? Is the only option to remove the whole front of the car to fit the complete unit ala Audi OE, or should I remove the engine this time, instead of the gearbox to do the seal...?
Any advice welcome, as I need to do this fairly soon, as I cant really drive the car at the moment...
    Cheers
    Chris
BTW, as ever, am on a tight budget, so can't really warrant engine out idea to get other jobs done too , like the shells, etc, etc, etc while I am in there.... just need to get it driving again.......

Just to clarify, do I buy a complete unit and have a nightmare (I expect) fitting job, ort try the replace only the seal technique and hope it doesn't come out again...?
    Thanks

The seal and sealing flange are seperate items. I got a genuine block gasket set from Audi and it came with just the seal.
You wouldn't need to remove the sump anyway, as there are cut-outs for the 2 bolts that pass through the sump to secure the flange, the other 6 bolt it to the block, and you need to take the flywheel off to get to those obviously.

IT could also be the oil gallery bung, it also lives in there, gearbox off job either culprit.

Good point Rob. At least that part is cheap. Only a few pence when I bought mine IIRC.
