MFTS/ Coolant gauge possible over heat question

My temp guage tends to read at just over 90 degs when warmed up (as an aside it warms it up very qucikly), when sitting in traffic the needle will move to the next mark or just above on the guage so approx 100degs, fan kicks in fine at that point. i have read here that others jas11n for one saw some odd things like this, just wondered if anyone else has experienced the same. My car isn't an s2 it's a 2.6 V6 80 q, but the parts are the same.

having owned many different audi's none of them have ever really gone above 90 degs, i have sniff tested the coolant in the expansion bottle and that comes out fine so i don't reckon it's headgasket.

the thermostat as per usual looks a real pain to change but it is possible it's not opening fully, ime audi stats tend to fail so the car runs cool. heater works fine, hoses and rad gets hot.

    thoughts guys please.

I think lou (220bhp) is having some problems with the temp/boost on his s2 and this was recommended to him, does yours run right etc apart from warming up too quick.

After I brushed off the contacts on my instrument cluster mine will sit around 95C in heavy traffic (2.8q v6). However it will dip down to nearly 60C on the motorway. It takes a second for it to reach 90C though.

However mine runs right, had the timing/belt replaced about 10months ago and put it a new radiator about 9 months ago. Even when the needle says 60C I can still get insane heat from the vents

Wouldn't worry about it too much then, v6s tend to run hotter than most engines (up to about 100C). Anymore than that though is a cause for concern

Thanks for that, looks like i am chasing a problem that doesn't exist then, good to hear that your car does pretty much the same as mine.

Its perfectly normal for water temps to rise above 90 celsius when sitting in traffic - the thermoswitches are configured around that level so the fan kicks in to reduce temps.
