Fault code 00561

Right,
i got the same fault once again. I had it for some time and i kept erasing it as it was intermittent. Then the idle started acting up so i replaced the lamda and everything went back to normal
Now the idle is fine, the car runs nicely on WOT,but either around 2/3 of accel pedal i get the roughness again and black smoke at the back...
MAF is about 1.5years old and so far had no issues with boost leaks. MAF to turbo hose is samco+metal and all intercooler hoses have been checked.I will try to do some thorough checks tomorrow if possible (wheather permitting that is).
I have never changed my fpr nor do i know how to check the pressure of it @ idle for example. However although it should be 3.8bar i have an ABY 4bar fpr. WOuld it make any sence swapping that to it?
Also i had again the battery down on the car and im wondering if that has anything to do with it. Code comes back whenever i go on 2/3 of accel testing the damn thing.Sometimes if im at 2000rpm for example and i go WOT from there,as it builds up the revs, around 3000rpm i get the roughness only momenterally so i dont know if this is boost related(around 1bar) or throttle valve related...
Anyone ever get that? Could this be something to do with accel potentiometer or something?
Other than that, what else can the throttle valve cause as symptoms?Comment

got this dreaded code today
as far as i know the fuel pressure reg is original as is the maf and lambda iv`e only been `chugging `to and from work lately there was a lot off condensation in the exhaust, got the code using vag-com cleared the code came straight back! which would you recommend i change first? car has covered 68000 miles

i tried to look for boost leaks today but i was not able to find any.I retightened all hoses and everything seems to be in order.
Vaccum hoses are fine as well.
I only had time to replace the N75 valve, but now after some reading and fault code description,im not really sure if the N75 valve has anything to do with mixture adaptation...
This code is more leak/maf/lamda related rather than anything else... SO i will test the car tomorrow and if it is still there,i will go for the MAF...Comment

For what is worth, had the same code on my RS2 a while back. The symptoms I found while driving, was the car was holding back after 5500rpms - this was the reason I checked for fault codes. All I did was clean the MAF with some carb cleaner, and haven't had the same problem again.

What im going to try doing today is change the spark plugs(have done about 8000Kms ) and check the rubber coil connectors. Then i will give the MAF a nice cleaning and put back the N75 valve as im pretty sure that it has nothing to do with that code.
As for boost leaks,i wouldnt say that they are any there as the car boosts fine on WOT and by that middle range 1/2 or 2/3 accel. depression problem does seem more like a MAF issue...Comment

Right,some interesting results...
I spent this whole morning fixing bits here and there, and so i replaced the top rubber flange, cause the previous one was soaked(due to my early problem with the PCV blockage), as well as the spark plugs, which were in fine condition by the way,but still i thought it was a good idea to have them new.
Now,i put the old N75 valve there which was nothing wrong with it apparently and took the MAF out to have a look!
Well well.... half the maf from the turbo side was covered in oil residue... Now that is either beacuse my breather system is actually breathing,OR because of my previous PCV blocakge problem that had built up residue there in the first place and it only happened to appear now.
I carb/cleaned the MAF and went for a spin whilst doing some logs on the vagcom.
I read somewhere that was mentioned that the MAF readout on vagcom is on block 003 under LOAD.
When some 15 days ago i had the same issues and along with that i had the lamda code as well i did some logs back then and i realised now that i was looking at them again that the MAF was :
1) not reaching it's top measurement
2) had eratic/different measurements on almost the same TB angle %.
here are the old and the new log.
It seems that on the new log the TB and MAF are much more consitent rather than erratic and also i did notice on higher revs the maf going to 118 figure as well.
If someone has anything to add or explain to us that will be nice!!
I just wanted to make sure that as far as the lamda or MAF is concerned if there is something to look for on the logs of vagcom that would point us to that direction rather than dismantling all the car searching for boost leaks that may not be there anyway but also if we could look this up then we would be pointed in the right direction...
cheers

The thing to watch for on VAGCOM logs is that the lambda probe values modulate around 1.000 when cruising or idling... It should quickly wobble around 1.000 with alternate values slightly high or low - showing that closed loop control is working... If it lingers too long then its probably and aging/faulty lambda probe.
Oh but when its on WOT you'll see exactly 1.000 in the lambda results as it goes into open loop mode and runs directly off map for mixture.Paul Nugent

I know all that Paul,
i was wondering if there is a way to check both lamda and MAF through the vagcom logs. I understand about lamda and open/close loop, but is LOAD a good way to test the MAF under various TB positions or in WOT to actually determine that it is faulty? If so,what should we be looking out for?Comment

Hello, on my RS2 I have the 00561 code too, I have already change the fuel filter with a new original one, N75 with a new original one, and the valve of the oil, from the front of the car on the right of the engine, I don't know the correct name, with a new original one. I have try to change the 3,8 bar FPR (original for ADU?) with a 4 bar FPR (original for ABY?). I have check also the lambda probe and is white, so the engine run poor on fuel, when the overboost turn on I have a bit of knock and the engine not run correctly, is slowly and also idle is not regular I have the impression that sometimes there is a lack in the ignition in one of the five cilynder but I have not error of this in the ECU, I have only 00561 fault code. I have PKM 370 hp chip and I haven't the KAT, I mount a panel K&N air filter, now I want to try with a new lambda probe, maf and fpr, I want change also the pop-off valve that is the original but it's not in good condition. Any other ideas? Thanks a lot! Bye

Hello, do you want the part number for a original RS2 ADU engine FPR? So you have change the air temp sensor in the inlet manifold of the engine and the coolant temp sensor in the back of the engine? The first one is called G42 and can be black or brown, I don't know the difference, the second is called G62 and I don't know which colour is, in my RS2 is light brown but I have read in a other forum that is white. I don't think that is light brown because is old or dirty. So you have change this two parts but you have not resolve the 00561 fault code? Your engine run very well or not?
Thanks a lot!

hi i have an aby coupe and have changed the G62 and the air inlet sender but still getting code and car is running crap! i think i will have to change the maf as most of the posts concerning this problem say its one if not all of the things i`ve changed, just thought i`d try anything to get car running okABY Cricket Green Pearl Coupe, blk leather

Hello, have you change or test the lambda probe? Now I change also the lambda probe and then I test the car, if not resolve the problem I try to change the maf. What is for you the air inlet sender?
