    UrS4 Timing Belt Interval?

Just been looking at the service record for my '93 S4. It last had a timing belt change at 61,000 miles back in October 2002. In the following 5.5 years it's done 22,000 miles.

Remember reading something about it needing a new belt every 50,000 miles or 5 years.

What's the forum's opinion? Do I need it doing, or can I relax for a few more years / miles?

So (in theory!) does that mean no need to worry about it until 120k? That could be 2011 at this rate!

Hmmm, I think if it's been on for over 5 years think about getting it done to be on the safe side Andrew. It might still be fine but the last thing you wnat is giving it an excuse to let go.

My belt on the quattro had only done 17k but had been on for just under 5 years, so I had it done anyway just to be sure.

That does sound like the more sensible option. Do you mind if I ask where you had the work done, and approximate cost?

I had mine done by a ur-specialist way down south. Not sure of the cost of the actual timing belt job alone, as I had a lot of other things done at the same time.

I imagine it would cost in the region of £3-400 though.
I had all the toothed pulleys replaced and the crank oil-seal done, as well as the obligitory water pump, tensioner etc whilst it was all apart.

80k miles or five years whatever the earlier IIRC.

I'd get Tim at Renn-tech-UK to do it. Call him for a price 07725544492.

He's on here sometimes but not often.

Don't forget to get a new water pump, water pipes, thermostat and bottom pulley at the same time.

Cheers for that I think Tim / Renn-tech is my nearest I5 specialist, and he's worked on my car before. I'll see what his opinion is, but I reckon for peace of mind I might have to bite the bullet ....
