    Oil around sparkplug! (10v non-turbo)

Noticed theres some oil around the sparkplug of cylinder no. 3 on my type-85 Cq.

Have changed the HG and its still there. Where is this coming from? Could have sworn that when looking at the engine this morning I could see oil/fuel slightly bubbling from where the HT lead connects to the back of the sparkplug. Hope its nothing serious! Has anyone heard about this before?

will get some pics up later on,

    Cheers,
    Phil

yes i have seen it before, you need to clean the area that the spark plug torques down too, best way is plugs out, fill plug hole with rag and then get some brake cleaner in there. all of my old 10v audi's did this at one time or another

Cam cover gasket, where the central part runs down the cam cover with the bores for the spark plugs.

The oil will weep from the top and collect at the bottom with the plugs.

Sorry, just realised that I'd said that I'd changed my Head gasket when I meant my Rocker cover gasket....

James (or anyone else for that matter), does this make any difference to the advice that you gave? Or is the cam-cover gasket different to the rocker cover gasket?

        cheers,

        Phil
