      .

Just put a new fitting in the manny to accept the line from the carbon canister, i did.

Have drill and tap for the fittings. I'll stick a piccy up later.

If i go that route whats the best way of clearing all the swarf out of the manfold before i install it then? don't want any of that going anywhere near my engine

            Some thing like this?

The filter used is metal and not cheap like the ones found on the bay. These can be brought from speedflow and other such shops.

Just bin it FFS. My carbon canister was removed years ago. It just vents the old skool way, straight to the atmosphere.

Just plug the hose that goes from the canister to the IM, so that you don't get a boost leak. Then use a new piece of hose to route the fumes from the top of the expansion tank in the boot, replacing the hose that goes towards the front of the car, out through the air vent in the well behind the rear wheel.

It's a weight saving of 1.4kg IIRC, and frees up needed space under the 3B bonnet.

I never worried about people smoking near any of my older cars, so why should I worry about it now?

                  Nice pictures James.
I thought it was such a no-brainer I didn't bother. I've done a few of these carbon canister removals via PMs, and I haven't had any complaints back yet.

Cos they vented somewhere suitably high enough and protected from such hazards. Sorry if I sound like a safety zealot here, but 1.4kg of mass reduction is a bit irrelevant on a car that weighs about 1000 times as much.

I admit the carbon canister is in a stupid place on the 3B - I would just relocate to the ABY location where it is tucked out of the way, and a bit lower too.

IF you really want to go with natural venting to atmosphere, then at least pay serious consideration to a rollover scenario... I believe the normal trick for that is some sort of ball valve that closes the vent in such a situation... Otherwise you are lying upside down and petrol is pouring on the floor (or worse)... All for a 1.4kg saving - not me matey.

Yes there is a ball valve that seals when up side down

Can of brake cleaner will do along with a little bit of compressed air.

If you drill the hole in the lump of alloy at the back of the manny, looks like something should be there, you can stuff some paper in through the throttle housing hole to stop most of the swarf travelling any further.

I don't personally understand why people remove this?

But have noted it's 3B cars this is done on in the main so must be a space issue or something.

It's the same type of thing as catalytic converters, unnecessary.

A kilo here, a kilo there, it all adds up and could make the difference between you ending up lying upside down or continuing to drive along merrily. But I couldn't expect a bulky ABY owner to understand that.

What do I care about excess weight with 500 planned horses and ftlb torque?
