These curves show how much better the 044 (and 005) are at keeping high flows at high boost pressures (fuel pressures as controlled by the fuel pressure regulator)

Perhaps someone can imbed the image in a post rather than the link (I can't remember how to do it here) (<img src="myphoto.jpg"> doesn't seem to work here)

thanks mates. as i understand there is a way to install 044 inside the fuel tank like stock unit?

          which one would you recomend?

actionaly i was thinking about 040 in-tank fuel pump. and use 044 in sequence with 040 in case of fuel pressure drop under high boost.

PS anybody have specs on stock rs2 fuel pump?

I am very sure that unless you plan on making 600 or 700 hp, you don't need two fuel pumps in series. The 044 in the tank (or even a 005 in the tank) will likely do you.

Doug (now of MRC) posted a step-by-step procedure on installing a 044 in an S2 coupe a number of years ago. I presume that the thread can be found again via a search in this forum (somewhere). What I do remember is the 005 and 044 Bosch pumps are 60 mm in diameter (vs the normal 43 mm) and therefore you need the two piece 60 mm V8 fuel pump basket. You also need a special banjo connection and an accorn nut. (This is from memory so please find the actual post by Doug).

I've got an 044, but I am always bemused about the outputs - the one I have is referred to as "motorsport modified" and was from one of our Le Mans cars. The rating was usually shown on the data sheet as 200 litres per hour and 10 bar. Stock ones were listed as 7 bar but that relief valve was removed.

We used to fit two in a 750 bhp car, but in fact we used to run just one for that output, feeding from the top of the collector, with the second pump feeding from the bottom of the collector (actually more like an internal reserve tank - very large, enough to lap Le Mans). Later we ran with two in parallel.

The very last Le Mans cars we built each ran five lift pumps, two 044 pumps and two mechanical pumps on the engine (FSI) ...so we ended up with nine pumps on the things!

what about 040 pump? isn`t it easier to use 040 pump. anyway I`m not going more than 450-500hp..

Having just read both Doug's and Greg's guides, I still have some dumb-***** questions: -

                      1. Doug says that 'You need to use the new connectors Greg will have provided', but Greag says just use crimp connectors. What have others done?

                      2. Doug says that we need the following parts: -

                      Reservoir: 895 201 779 H
                      Strainer: 895 201 531 A
                      Adapter (Banjo) N 903 307 01
                      Sealing Washers (x2) N 013 812 8
M12x1.5 Dome Nut (in place of damper)

But then Porkis then says in the same thread that the strainer is not needed. Can someone confirm what exactly is required for a Coupe install please?

                      3. I seem to remember reading that the baskets get brittle and crack. Is it worth getting a new one as a precaution and if so, which part exactly is needed?

                      Cheers n

                        1) IMO it doesn`t matter. the main goal is to make good reliable connection.

                        2) new strainer = new meshes = no sand and dirt in your new fuel pump, and better flow then your old one.

anyway these parts cost not so much money to worry about your wallet.

Also worth doing when tank is near empty so you can get any residue out of the bottom of the tank too
