    Wobbly speedo & holding back

On the way to work in the car today I accelerated and the car seemed to hold back and be a bit jumpy so think I might have a dreaded boost leak again. Especially since the car stalled at junctions twice this morning.

Also wehn driving upto about 70 the speedo needle started wobbling back and forth about 5mph. When you come to a stop and move away again it is fine til you get to about 70ish, but it was intermittent doing this. Is it likely to be the speedo or the speed sensor on the gearbox?

Also the stalling, after fixing any boost leak. is it likely to be the Lambda? TPS or ISV?

I know the TPS could do with changing since the microswitch for when the throttle closes isnt working.

Did you have to replace the ISV or just clean it?

Might as well try cleaning the ISV first, it's an easy job - remove, squirt liberal quantities of WD in and give the valve a good waggle.

just cleaned, still happens occasionally but far less frequently ... shame I hadn't found out this was the cause because I've had this problem since when I first got the car back in 1999 and it's been gradually getting worse until the ISV was cleaned last time the car was in the garage.

That faulty switch on the TPS is deffo bad news for idling - its the early warning signal to the ECU when you lift off approaching junctions to go for the idle settings - especially so when warming up.

There was a few s2's being broken on ebay recently, if any one saved the pages it might be worth contacting them to see if they can sell you one.

The wobbly speedo returned this morning. Not entirely sure of what is causing it, could be the speed sender, dry joint on instrument cluster or poor connection. Any other tips?

Got a new TPS on the way along with a few other bits from vagparts

Well two years on and the wobbly speedo problem seems to be back, but only occasionally. Still not sure what is causing it. Doesnt seem to be any particular pattern or reason for it to happen.

Also I changed the TPS a long while ago and that fixed my stalling problem. Was due to the microswitch not working when the throttle is closed
