    Oh my god

161 miles for £42 that works out roughly at 14mpg:eek2:

that includes 2 short blasts about 5 miles each all the rest is town and rural driving.

I know it has a superchip and i read somewhere that the chip runs rich through the rev range but holy toot man 14mpg.

wouldn't mind but it aint even all that fast

I will be changing the thermostat next week if all the parts arrive but will it really make that much diff or am i missing something else.

    Tell me about it!

My average this year has been 16.7mpg. I drive 3 miles through town followed by 7 miles open road to work and back every day. It rarely goes far without getting thrashed for some part of the journey.

It's bloody expensive when you're using Optimax at 4p per litre more than regular unleaded!

    But its fun!

Yep, I'm usually around 16mpg on my regular trip to and from work - but I do a lot of thrashing about, in fairness. I thought I was the only one getting very poor mpg but it seems I am not alone?!!

On the other hand, I did a trip up to Debyshire via Nottingham a few weeks ago and ended up managing a 350 mile round trip plus a bit more on one tank of fuel! Actually I did about 365 miles before refueling. I made it something like 25mpg - which is a bit of a record for me!

Oh yeah, and I use the Optimax stuff too. Still trying to find enough Top Trumps cards to win the competition - then I can sell the prize car and fund some serious pony power for the Toxic Kitten!

Would be worth checking your lambda probe is Ok too. When I first got my S2 it was averaging 16-18mpg. Now it has the RS2 setup, running 4 bar fuel pressure and I'm getting 22 - 25 mpg

And clean your MAF, and check the 'stat is working ok.

For what it's worth I've been getting almost 23mpg out of mine recently, been using that BP Ultimate.

Mine drinks some 14 to 18 litres on 100km. I donno how it is in mpg but not an economy champ thats shure. MAF cleaning improved it a bit but not that much. I am considering lambda probe exchange, although values measured on the probe are normal. Thermostat? Possible. When cold, consumption exceeded 20 litres. And thats a lot.

I have worked out my average going to work and back. Its a 8 mile trip with a 5 mile section of dual carriageway. I get a whopping 16mpg!!! Not bad. And i must admit to driving in 'fairly' hard

On a trip its loads better. Worked out at 27mpg coming home from Gregs garage meet. Not bad for 360ish bhp

I had a new MAF fitted last year, and I still have the old one, so I have scope to clean one while running the other (if the original was only dirty, and it does look a bit dirty). What do you recommend for cleaning (method and materials)?

I'll have to ask a colleague at work about whether we have any lambda probes kicking about.

My journey to work is 25 miles, but nearly all twisty roads with three long straights thrown in for time-saving purposes! All B-roads I might add, except for the first five miles, which is on unclassified road - fun, when there's nothing else about, like a rally stage!! I do push my car very hard, but it is "only" rated at 300bhp.

As I mentioned before, I managed 25mpg on a much longer trip, but that is quite rare...

it is quite normal for S2 to eat 14-16 litres of 99+ gasoline / 100 km... And these values are for my car - model 3B with 330 KM (soon a little bit more )...

In town cycle it is about 17 litres / 100 km

it isn't cheap car for sure

Leo you make me sad. There is a guy with an S6 here, same engine as ours (230 HP) and he sais his baby drinks about 12-14 in city and less in country and the S6 is some 110 kilo heavier I assume. Hmmm.

@KOTK - MAF cleaning has been posted elsewhere, but in short, get a big bottle of Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA - not to be confused with India Pale Ale!) from your local chemist, remove MAF, dunk in IPA and leave to soak overnight. Wonder at how dirty the thing is, especially considering it's supposed to have received filtered air. Replace MAF.

Cheers Dan, I guess that'll be the other job on my list apart from doing the Servotronic!

Me and The Kitten have been together for a year now! I treated her to a wash on Monday at lunchtime - now I've found a dent in the passenger side door to match the one on the driver's side!!! Ya can't park anywhere these days...

How do you handle a dent like the ones you mentioned? This rotten problem is international.
