    intemitantly overheating

this is a new one on me.

my S2 is overheating every now and then. it will sit in traffic and on motorway at 90 all day long. then randomly it will shoot up to say 105/110degrees for a minute or two then drop back down to 90.

its had a thermostat in december to sort the overcooling issue. I have chucked a rad fan switch on it last week so its not that.

why do i get the feeling my water pump has had it.

Check that the cooling system is properly bled and that there are no leaks. Has it lost water?

    Worst case is head gasket.

Is the fan kicking in and out? Mine was doing this, though not to the extent of 100degs but it was a shoddy piece of VAG work to repair the fan connectors. Incidently i think i have managed to shake a connector loose again as the fan failed to kick in the other day.

If youhave aircon, then push the aircon button and see if the fan starts on that button press, if not then I reckon its a dodgy connection or failed sensor somewhere

no airlock, the heating works A1, all hoses and rads are the same temperature. Level is good, its not lost any.

fan kicks in fine, can sit on my drive, just creeps over 90 and bang on comes the fan.

been doing abit of research. could it be the MFTS playing up, as it looks like everything is ok under the bonnet, just the reading that is wrong. Also the fuel guage has been giving me some odd readings?

another thing to note is that the warning light hasnt come on at all.
