Never had any problem running without mine. Also good to get rid of as they leak like a swine when they go.......
Removed Aux rad...big improvement

Or a german would do. what? oh a poll? sorry.

I'm currently think about takling both rads out and replacing with a nice one from a 2.3 that's the same dimensions and not plumbed for the aux rad. no need to bung anything up. Living in Scotland i'm not overly concerned about the time I spend sitting in traffic on a hot day.--------------------------------------------------------------------

Paul, thx a lot for help,
experience is quite a thing to stick to.
Will this conversion also work with thick clima rad, attached to the main one?

If you've got aircon and want to keep it, i wouldn't remove the aux. rad.
Just my thing, but i have removed the aux. rad and my aircon system complete...no need for it in the UK.Carlos.
On the look out for less bits for my s2 saloon project. Now supporting myself by shooting for my food. www.airgunforum.co.ukComment

Carlos, thx for your comment, that's what i suspected. esp if you consider, that fan keeps on working all the time when you have aircon on.- Racing. Cause football, baseball, bowling & golf take only 1 ball.

It is something to think about, but for all the days in UK that you really need to have aircon ON then I don't think its a bog problem. The radiator fan runs when aircon is on, not so much cos of any great additional load placed on the engine, but to ensure there is a good supply of air over the aircon condenser - especially when sitting stationary on a hot day where the aircon has to work hardest as the only air flowing thru the cabin has been the hot ambient stuff sucked in from round the plenum - just behind the bonnet.
It is easy to wire up additional radiator fan switches if you find them necessary - I would do that before considering putting the hateful auxrad on again.Paul Nugent

thx again for your remark, Paul.
I'm in process of reconsidering the under bonnet space, cause it's organized as messy as hell... If you've replaced the dizzy down there under the IM - then you know how comfy the thing is. I luckily have one spare AAN rad and AAN IM (from my previously owned S6 C4) and think about maybe installing a big front rad and a long IC like this: VAG 8K0 145 805 G. It's a A4 B8 unit, sized 1045*160*100 мм, and priced relatively cheap - about Eur 120 back here =) It's just my thoughts about how-it-can-be-improved... would be thankful for any comments.- Racing. Right, I removed the Aux Rad years ago on the 3B - the thing was leaking at the time and the replacement cost was frightening (something like £250 at the time), plus I was starting to get interested in maintaining the S2 myself. The extra access you gain by removing it is worth it alone.
In the UK at least, I saw no issue with coolant temperatures, they never went any higher than before, even having put the car on several track days. I always used the Aircon (never switched it off) on the road, (and in a dark car with a very hot turbo engine with black leather interior, aircon is very welcome).
If I were still driving my S2 now, I would take it out if it started leaking, or I needed to do some work around the front of the engine for sure.Ex S2 owner, now running around in an A4 Avant quattro...

Another thumbs up on the aux removal, done several track sessions including the Ring and NO problems at all with either running or stationary temperatures. Essential to make sure your rad fan is working properly though.
Personally i think a better upgrade than the main rad is to get a more modern and hence more efficient fan, like a kenlowe or pacet. been looking at them myself, big space gains on a 3b at least and also more efficient draw on these fans and less current drain too I'd expect. if i was less of a div with electrics, i'd have mounted one by now

Rad fan doesn't do anything when running hard. Would be better cooling without it. Just needed for slow speed driving / stationary situations.Another thumbs up on the aux removal, done several track sessions including the Ring and NO problems at all with either running or stationary temperatures. yeah no appreciate that......just that the std fan is noisy, large and compared to modern engine fans, probably not as efficient
