    Missing pipe on Turbo..?

Recently had the exhaust downpipe replaced on my '91 S2 and noticed that gentle acceleration was no longer smooth, with turbo kicking in noticeably at around 30mph.
I Also noticed yesterday that there appears to be a pipe missing from the top of the tubo! Looking at it from front-bumper angle, the socket points to 11am on the rear side of a circular cap on top of turbo, but I can see no matching plug to which it should be connected...
Are the above two issues related?
Can anyone tell me what this pipe does, and where it connects to?
    Is it essential?
    Thanks for any help.

SOunds to me the pipe you are talking about is the one on top of wastegate (WG) cap. It is supposed to be connected to fresh air - no pipes here on the S2.

Is your exhaust system leak free since the work that was done ?

    Any fault codes showing ?

Donald - why have you had the downpipe replaced?

I have vag-com and i'm local - work in Edinburgh, live in dunfermline - if you want to plug vag-com in to see if you have any error codes?

If you download the software from Ross-tech it is freeware - it has the logging function disabled - but you can still see all the realtime data and you can see all the fault codes and reset them.

If you pay the fee it will enable logging - to be honest, I have only used this for fun stuff.

You will need to source a lead, and an adapter - as we don't have the ISO2 connector in our cars. I have just got a mating half ripped out a golf in the scrappy so I can mount that in the car and not need the adapter.

                Thanks Doug,

I will look into it, there are some things I want to check.

Shame the Audi doesn't have a USB port.

I used to work for a company in Dunfermaline called Fortronic. I was based at their Knutsford service office.

I was going to stick mine there as well.

I don't know how to get around the usb problem on newer laptops - I think someone tried a USB to serial port adapter at the last meet and it didn't work.

In the good old days we used to use the parallel port to work a serial printer. ! data line was used and not 8. I wonder if something similar could be done and go bi-directional.

                      Just a thought....

I've got a crummy old laptop P100. Batteries are stuffed. I need to make a new power pack for it or use an inverter.

The USB to serial is for mice only I think.

I'm sure you can configure the printer/parallel port as the serial port - I think Mihnea might be doing this on his newish laptop?

I need a power inverter for my old laptops as the batteries are knackered - www.ardelectronics.com has cheap inverters - I think I paid £30 and the same one at Demon ***** is about £100 more expensive!

There is a company called strike a light who do all sorts of batteries and chargers. I was going to ask them about some cells ( correct name for single battery item by the way folks!). they do inverters as well. They do solar power and I think wind power. You could always belt along with a windmill out of the window!

Imagine it Mihnea shouting out to you: "Don't stop Doug I haven't saved the data yet!"

He is nearly as bad as that - when you do a 5th gear run on a mapping sesh - he wants it upto the redline - I was too scared to look at the speedo at the time.

Doug, it could be worse , he could be asking for redline in 6th!

Mind you, you know what these low country people are like with windmills and their leaky dykes!
