just to let you know, the fuel pump and starter motor are now working fine. It still won't run but i suspect its to do with ignition timing and/or injectors.
Hopefully i haven't fried my ecu or anything.
Will give it another go after work tonight :SComment

Ok, i have made some progress but now stumped again
Fuel pump is working fine, there is plenty of pressure in the fuel rail.
I have tried turning the dizzy whilst cranking over to get the correct timing and still nothing. It must be nigh on target as i used the flywheel mark to set it up.
I took the injectors and fuel off the head and cranked it, and injectors did not fire.
I'm thinking 2 things;
If the dizzy isn't timed correctly, would the ecu prevent the injectors firing?
secondly, i'm thinking that since the fuel pump relay and wiring controls the injectors too, is there something else i need to change other than just the relay?
Cheers.Comment

Check you are getting a signal from the hall effect sensor - use a test LED across the signal pin and ground - t'other pin is 5 or 12V.
Have you checked all the timing marks ?
What about the dissy gear - is that OK ?
While you are there - check you have correct rotor arm and the firing order is correct at 1-2-4-5-3 !
Here's another mad suggestion - I haven't checked the parts system, but does a KV engine (thats old school K-Jetronic) carry the same fuel pump as the 7A engine and the requirements of its MPI based system ?

Nope - just checked the fuel pump situation... KV and 7A had the same pump specified in 1989. In 1991 the 7A got the same pump as 3B, NM and others which carried thru into ABY and the V6 motors.Paul Nugent

i did think about changing the pumps, but i'm convinced there is enough preesure in the rail.
I took the fuel rail off, with injectors attached. With the fuel lines now connected the right way around (DOH!) i cranked over for about 5 seconds before one of my injectors attempted to attain a low earth orbit. Took me a while to find it again! I am geting spark, so i'm guessing the hall sender is fine. I'm starting to wonder if having the wrong relay at first fried my ecu or something...Comment

Ah ok, thats good news. Tomorrow i will get hold of a multi meter and go crackers on the wiring loom.
thanks again.Comment

oh and just to let you know, i did check the firing order of the HT leads, they are correct. Also the rotor arm and hall sendor are deffo working fine as the HT leads, dizzy and rotor were swapped temporarily with another 20v yesterday (which is why the timing is now off)Comment

Paul,
Is there any chance you could post up the schematics of the fuel puomp relay system for the ABY? Im haveing a similar issue now that ive put the ABY engine into my previously NG engined CQ.
