repo,
forgot to ask you, which is better the ballbearing or the thrust bearing as far as the life of the turbo is concerned?I mean if i wanted a turbo that will hold for quite a bit, which would be the one to choose?
the only info i have is that thrust bearing turbos are servicable while ball bearings though they last longer, they are not servicableComment

Yep that's the one I wanted to know about although since they've only been around since 2007 hard to judge the turbo life expectancy on the products. Is this the turbo you are refering to http://www.compturbo.com/products/in...&product=CT367
Looks very reasonable price even with the ball bearing option.
Wish i'd seen these before i bought my garret.Comment

Any idea what the backpressure was?Customer dynoed a 2.2l AAN with Schrick cams, my ex manny and a 67 a month ago. Got 615hp / 740Nm with little less than 2 bar.
They tried to raise the boost, but the boost didn't obey the Apexi avc-r like it used to, so they stopped there.
After dyno, the owner noticed that the turbo was loose, and immediately after tightening the nuts on the studs, the boost was 2,5bar again.
Normally the 67 gives 2 bar at some 3800rpm with a 2,2 litre fiver. Best power normally comes at 7000-7100.
Astonishing turbo, I must say. Ask from nick +500hp, as he had one in his RS2, and changed it into bigger one. I think he still occasionally regrets it...Comment

With .63 the backpressure was 1,5 times boost.
With .82 never above.
I really cannot say much of long time reliability, but I can say, 3b bearings seem to hold a shock of any kind. We popped off a boost pipe a couple of times at 7000rpm anr 3,5 bar. No probs with the turbo. Not a sign of a defect.
On paper the 3b should endure longer than journal bearing. Luckily all CT turbos can be repaired in any turbo shop capable of balancing a T4. Including the 3b ones.Everything less than 2 bar is considered to be naturally aspiratedComment

I see these figures when stepping on it on 5th at 3000rpm, .82 housing and journal bearing.
Smaller A/r turbine helped suprizingly little, if at all for spoolup. Only top end, of course is significantly better with 82.Everything less than 2 bar is considered to be naturally aspiratedComment

Well, what can I say about compturbo.
Installed a stg4 ct355 .63 A/r journal bearing into ex-Kalsket's RS2, which had been running with gt2871 for three or so years.
It was wery responsive at low end, gave 2 bar way before 3K rpm.
Still, the tiny turbine side of the 28 caused the egt's to creep to astronomical level, and caused the EM to melt away.
I made new equivalent manifold, and installed the CT55 into the car. Customer stated, that there is no difference in the spoolup, as it starts to pull at some 2800-2900 rpm, and gives plenty of more grunt at the top end. Without egt issues.
Stg4 55 is 55mm in / 60mm ex, and can be chosen with a turbine housing or .48, .63 or .82 A/r.
.63 A/r gives nice 520 hp / 620Nm with 3b cams and less than 2 bar. I do not have any plots to show, without asking a permission from customers. With some port job, .82 turbine, a good exhaust and higher boost the 55 can be stretched to around 550hp, and if done right, without sacrificing too much of the spoolup.
New 57 is same family with the 55. Don't have any personal experience with that, but by the statements from non-audi owners have been encouraging.
58 is already a GT series, and requires at least stg5 (63mm) turbine. For stg5 there are the same turbine housing options than for stg4.
One particularly good CT for inline fivers is the ct350, which gave nice 400hp / 520Nm from a stock 3b and 1,4 bar.
These smaller CT's prices start from 990 eur. Ball bearing adds the price for 600 eur.
What else would You like to know?
Hi Repo,
Could you ask permission to the owner of that RS2 with 3B cams and the Stg4 55 to share the rolling road results please? I am very interested in that turbo and setup
CheersComment

I cant wait to see any sort of RPM-Boost log from these superspoolin' turbos.
How do you calculate backpressure ratio,by dividing relative or absolute pressures?

Is this on your 2,5L ?
I have a 'netics T62-1 ar.58 exhaust and ar.70 inlet..
I have full boost about 3900-4000rpm.
Wondering about getting an GTK550, heard that it spools up about 3500(ish) somthing or sooner, tried that one ?'93 Audi S2 Coupe ABY "sZwei"

I reached one of the customers. The plotter was broken, so they needed to take a photo of the dyno frame.
On this one there was some slipping. Customer said he'll check if he has better curves soemwhere. This was not the best pull.

The Q-trim T66 SB I've got today doesn't get full boost before ~4300-4500.
