    Help??? Enging/imobiliser starting problem

recently posted a thread regarding my car it starts and runs for a second then stops but cant find the thread again/... the imobiliser light comes up.

on some advice i have checked the fuses & they are all fine.

the ignition switch was another suggestion, or maybe a sensor?

was wondering if anyone could shed any extra light on the situation or anyone who can lend a hand? It is really doing my head in!!

    p.s. have bookmarked this one!

      update:

have tried the ignition switch and its a bit worn but not totally broken, can recreate the problem with the switch removed which leads me to believe its not that.

are there any sensors in the engine which might make the engine automatically shut off after a second or so?

the strange thing is it turns over then switches its self off....

tried to start after its turned its self off and it just turns over... wait 30 secs and then it does the same thing again, starts - runs for a sec- turns its self off..

if i had any hair id be pulling it out right now..

Strange one that. Do you have an aftermarket alarm in addition to the standard Factory ECU immobiliser?

        @ Everybody:

What does the Immobiliser light mean? I am assuming in the factory ECU case, it means the key is not where it should be, i.e. near the ignition switch?

Have you a spare key to try and what how does the ECU "Recognise" the key?

I think you need to be looking in at the above.

Paul maybe able to help on the ECU functionalilty side of things here....

        HTH

        Cheers,

        Steve.

it has a toad ai606 alarm which i belive is working because if i activate the alarm then the lights come on, on the dash but nothing happens = normal

if i leave the key in the ignition but dont start it then after 30 seconds the toad alarm imobiliser cuts in and then when u try to start the car nothing happens = normal

when i try to start the engine in any other circumstance the engine starts and runs as normal for a couple of seconds then something happens and it switches its self off.

i have checked the ignition switch and although tired, its working correctly.

sometimes the light on the dash doenst come on but its a constant fault, it always does teh same thing without fail.

al (laseravant) as advised me to have look at the alternator and check all my connections, so will try this and see what happens.

also : how does the car know the key is in the ignition? is there a coil or some sorta device near the barrel to tell the ecu the key has been inserted?

Ian i believe your thread was removed due to it turning into a masterclas on how to steal an S2!

Sounds very much like a fault with the key/reader coil, have come across this before on various different makes of car, although never an audi.I doubt the immo light would flash if it had a problem with the toad alarm.Have you any spare keys for the car?

                as

suggested abowe and as i suggested in your, last thread. Check the reader coil, around the key/ign.lock.
Have changed alot of those over the years, specially in golf and a4
Hope you find the problem, if you have a spear key, and this does not work either, looks to be the coil reader.

I tried both spare keys and alarm fobs and inspected the little transponder thing inside the key to see if it had become damaged in some way but looked fine (not that id know wat it looked like if it was damaged)

i thought it might be the some sorta comunication error between the key and the imobiliser...

ooo the coil reader... did you say that was around the barrel? i had the ignition switch off earlier which was worn but not stopping the engine from turning over and starting.

where would one find the reader?

there was a little white box behind the clocks which i unplugged and plugged back in. it had audi logo on it but not the foggyest what it was for.....

i just had a thought? it couldnt be something stupid like the idle control valve would it? i know that doesnt explain the imobiliser light on the dash but even if i give it some revs it still wont idle, jsut cuts off!

will post a video tomorrow of what its doing so peeps can see and hear what its doing if its any help

pull any codes you can via vag-com ( module 25 ) and see if there's any errors logged, it's possible with the factory fitted alarm , to get the start started and still log errors, low voltage in batt is one possible cause, on such circumstances the immom light on the dash will continue to flash even when you're driving around

i fitted a new battery and it turns over much better now. so dont think its low voltage.

and unfortunatly i dont have a vagcom so cant pull those codes.

right just an update, on the ongoing saga of "fecking thing wont run"

havnt pulled blink codes yet as need to get propper led instead of popping ones...

fuel pump hasnt been priming the system when i turn the key.. any ideas? i can make it run by playing with the relay but the engine still cuts out...

im getting short on patience and am gonna probs take it to "The Phirm" who are just up the road from me.

on the upside.. Have got a new bumper and teh new bonnets going on. So it looks all nice again
