with the keyways aligned the teeth dont align and the chain doesnt go on without having to adjust a sprocket. that puts the cam into an unkown position.
1 unknown too many to scare my engine builder Mr Dhooma.
had a problem ther with that last upload came in abit late
Exactly - he wants as many bolt on products that he knows will work.
With all the modifications i am doing thers too many variables to work out if something does go wrong, say the car does not idle properly.
He's already told me he's not initially putting on my 70mm throttle body aswell.
Going to start the car up 1st and get it to idle and behave like it should then all the fancy stuff can start to come on.
Made sense to me, would save alot of head scratching if u had less untested products on the motor, when the problems start.

Sorry,i still don't get it.
Did he plan to set up your cams just by looking at the adjustment range of the sprocket?
The one i have has a adjustment range of more than 1 full tooth, and since 2-3 deg tweak in lobe separation makes a HUGE difference...........

He was asking why thers no center or zero marking on the adjustment range - so i take it he wanted to zero the cams without the use of a degree wheel.
He said if the standard sprockets keyway is aligned then the teeth are aligned on the oem units - so the adjustable ones arent manufactured very accurately since they dont align.
Is this correct or am i missing something ?

He is missing the whole point.
What is the point of having an adjustable sprocket and not using a degree wheel to set it up with?
It's gonna be a complete shot in the dark.
No offense, but i would look for another tuner.
Just my opinion.
As 5 inline said, the adjustable gears are made to adjust. You have to adjust TDC to oem spec using a degree wheel or you can adjust the cam opening at different degrees before/after TDC. If you want oem spec on cam timing then use the oem gears, theses are designed for adjustment so that you can have different specs from oem. I have a few questions though anyone know the oem specs when the valves open close in relation to TDC for the 7a motor? What about 3b/aan/adu? Also anyone know if the 034 pinned cam gear will bolt to the 7a cam?
