    What is this

This small pipe is very close to it's expiry date. It seems to be rubbing on the bonnet somewhere, anyway can some1 tell me what it is for.

    cheers

It is a vaccum line - that rubber hose connects to a metal hose that goes across the front of the engine behind the cambelt (the metal pipe is welded to the turbo coolant hose) It pops out the other side of the block and another small rubber hose connects from the metal pipe to the diverter valve.

You should really replace all the small bore hoses with some silicon hoses as they WILL cause you troubles at some point.

thanks for that. Yeah I am going to change things as I go, the car aint going right just now anyway. boost drops when it hits 3k then rises again @ 4k so need to start eliminating things tomorrow.

      Cheers

That sounds like the problem I had (before my current round of problems) which was cured with a new intercooler and o ring. Check the o ring out - might be just knackered. Mine was about 3 times it's original size when I pulled it out.

Saying that, Leigh has the same problem (boost hits max, drops down, builds up a bit then tails off) and it wasn't his o ring...

Boost leak somewhere, for sure. Could be any of the hoses behind the driver's headlight apart from maf turbo. Usual suspects, dump valve got a hole in it, turbo to intercooler pipe got a split it in, intercooler to inlet manifold got a split in it... etc.

        Good luck!

@Paul M - I'll tell you what that is - It is ALWAYS the first hose to leak on the ABY engines in my experience. I have changed loads of these. It can make an amazing difference, as with a small leak in this hose you can lose manifold pressure at high boost.

            small bore hoses

When replacing the small bore vac hoses what type of clips do you guys use? Same ones? Do you need a clamping tool to get these tight or do long nosed pliers do? I don’t think jubilee type clips go that small, or do they?
