Squeeling noise when off throttle

got an irritating problem (Herbpeas ) :

On acceleration no problem but when you lift off the throttle and let the speed drop (at any speed) there is a squeeky kind of a sound,like a rubbing.

im wondering if it could be either centre prop bearing or engine mounts shagged thus letting the engine move at varios angles?

I cant see it being gearbox mounts. I get the feeling its the prop fouling the zorst heatshield,as the noise seems to be from the centre of the car. If i press the clutch noise goes (hope its not the clutch ) as if engine has moved about to correct position.

Any been there done thats?

does it do it at standstill, i.e. can you hear the noise till you put your foot on the clutch?

could be release bearing.

defo not checked all of them when i put it back on stock suspension today.sure its summat in the middle under the car

Is it a hi pitched squeal ? if so will be altinator belt.

no defo under and in the centre of the car its a rubbing/catching/metal noise

does the prop have to come off to do this?

No ..just get the car on a ramp and see if there is any play in the mid mounted bearing up and down movement

Have you check all your belts are tight ?

Does it sound like there is friction?

its a metal scraping sound that has gradualy gotten worse,all belts fine

Sounds very same to what i had with my S4 ..was in a garage getting MOT passed no problem but when i got it back it was making this rubbing noise so took it back to them ...basicilly what had happen the knob had drove the car on to the ramp thinking it was a landrover and hit the heat shield somehow and it was rubbing against the prop

I had something similar on my golf, it turned out was the idler pulley thing only did it when off accelerater .

could check that but as i say its coming from under the car and i forgot to say im getting a slight vibration on de-acceleration
