Just as i was making progress with the URS4, the Audi daily driver decided to start plating up. Top end rattles and oil light on the Dash. Looking like its the oil pump, pressure valve. So need to get the thing sorted.........................

It's probably a blocked oil pump pickup pipe. Common as muck on 1.8T engines. If caught in time you can usually get away with just replacing the pickup pipe but if left too long the pump will be damaged and eventually every other moving part in the engine.
not got a how to on the sump to hand but I would imagine it can be took off without too much trouble. I can't remember if the subframe gets in the way.

the best intentions are fraught with disappointment - gil grissom
I had a quick look and it looks as if the Subframe might get in the way. Hopefully it is just the pick up. The noisey top end i think i ran about 10miles ( never noticed as i had the stereo on.) But looks like my hands are getting dirty again..............
Just my luck as i was going to put it up for sale in a few weeks. With its fresh MOT. CARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Subframe off, not a bad job- worst one is cleaning the sealant off the sump face/block (i use brake cleaner)- guarantee it is a blocked pick up(bet the car was on longlife servicing for most of it's life)
As i remember there are 2 slots cut into the flywheel to allow acess to the gearbox end sump bolts(been a while so don't quote me!! )
You can get away with just dropping the subframe in situ, if you lift the engine.
I had to do this the week after getting my A4 - was pretty straightforward, just took a while to clean all the cack out of the sump and like Dubmiester says, the more time spent cleaning the sump/block faces the better.
As I recall, the trickiest bit was feeding the long oil pump drive up into the engine - but then I didn't have a lift, without the subframe in the way it would have been easier.
Might be best doing multiple oil changes following the fix, just to help clean out any dislodged crud, I did a flush, then basic changes at 1000 miles, 3000, and now every 6000, just to be safe...
Nothing feels fast for long...

I've had the sump off of both of our 1.8Ts as a matter of course, just to check the oil pick-up pipe. The A3 pipe had a load of swarf in it, so that was cleaned out and the engine's still running fine at ~145k miles. The S3 pipe was nice and clean, so almost a waste of time loooking, but at least we know it's ok.
Just been thinking about what the car needs to be a good example to sell and it needs the following
Engine work - Timing belt and pulleys, oil pump, maybe lifters.
Body work - Passenger side rear door has some surface rust but needs a good respray to make the car good again. The car when i bought was needing a freshen up and my mate said he would paint it as he had the paint. £200 all in. (Still able to do this.)
Interior- Drivers seat has the usual wear but needs replaced as does the front passengers seat.
The car has just got a fresh MOT but i am looking at Breaking the car now as i think the cost of putting it right will be too great.
Whats your opinions on this?
What is the car really worth?
The car has Height adjustable suspension only covered 1500miles
Angel eyes headlights
Old style RS4 wheels 2 tyres need replacing.
So i can sell that on to make some cash back and then anything else people want from it.
