Relocating the MAF

Larger diameter at the MAF housing will indeed slow down speed of air over the hot-wire, but it also screws up the scaling of air-mass to voltage characteristic of the device... You could use an expensive SQ MAF with its bigger tube (and known scaling) or get the RS2 MAF calibrated on a flowbench with the bigger housing... Then use that data to remap the loading points on the ECU - complex stuff this. No wonder the after-market boys ignore MAF and go straight for MAP and throttle position.

yeah - which is why only the most experienced Motronic meisters can remap the ECU accordingly when the MAF is rescaled !
