    Coolant system schematic

Hi, does anyone have a schematics of the S2 colling system, and of particlar interest, around the turbo area.

Ive had a slight/minor loss of coolant recently (about a 0.25l/wk) which was worrying me cos i couldnt pinpont the where it was coming from.

Over the weekend i had the undertray off and found that a little puddle of coolant had appeared beneath the car in the area besides the sump directly below the starter motor.

Is there any nasty little rubber hoses above the starter motor that could cause this, or are they all braided in that area?

    Cheers,

    Brian

The turbo coolant feed has a rubber section where it connects to the centre core plug on the block.

Cheers for that...its probably/hopefully favourite as the source of the 'little dribble', but without being able to see it, i cant say for certain.

i will have to pull out the airbox over the weekend to gain for visibility and take a look.

Would that by any chance be the same size of hose that always sprays a leak on the other side of the block, the one that feeds from the water manifold from the turbo return?

      Cheers again, Brian

It's probaly the same size hose as the return hose, but the problem is the rubber part is only a very short section that is swaged to a metal pipe.

oh dear, so i guess that means removing and replacing the threaded part at the swaged end from from the block.

i guess a trip to the local audi parts dept is in store

034 121 497 A is the one, I bet it's not cheap, so it might be worth confirming that it's definitely causing the problem first.

I have had loads of problems with my cooling system in the last few years, and replaced every component (except matrix) as they have all failed one after the other.
Another fail point is the plastic manifold which goes onto the back of the block above the starter and feeds the heater matrix. Mine went brittal (as did every other plastic piece on the car).
I also had the front core plug fail, the steel pipe failed where they had welded on the bracket which bolts onto the bell housing, the expansio bottle cracked, the main rad cracked, the aux rad popped, the hoses perished. So now the hoses are silicone, and all the above parts are new.

Ive heard about the plastic manifold leaking before, another thing for me to check as the leak/dribble is collecting on top of the starter motor and the lump that comes out from the side of the sump.
has anyone got any pics of these areas whilst doing their various engine out bhp upgrades.
Im gonna take/post a few photos myself when i get round to investigating the leak this weekend.
