    Overboost Test

After reading Dest`s thread about boost levels, I noticed chaps talking about the simple overboost test - flooring the car in 4th gear at 2k rpm.

I dont see boost over 16/17 psi at any time, and thought I would try this test last night.

Flooring the car at 2k rpm, I dont see much boost (say 4-5 psi) immediately, and by the time I have reached 3k rpm, it hasn't gone up much . Maybe just hitting around 8psi!

I have replaced the WGFV, coil packs, TPS, TBV and the big bore boost hoses, and done the intercooler 'o' ring mod.

Could this be a sick turbo? It does sound like the exhaust is blowing around that area when driving, but its so hot round that area, I cant work out if I can feel anything.

@waad - 16-17psi is about 1.1 bar which is about right for factory ABY software. Are you running something different on your ECU.

Umm, seems a tad low then to me for a homefry setup on an ABY.

I get 1.4bar on overboost and when booting uphill from low revs in 4th and dragging the brakes I have seen closer to 1.5bar although I am sure Paul will come back and say that 1.4bar is the top limit.

LOL - I haven't recorded you as waad here on the old almanac - send me a PM with your real name and I'll see what chips you have - maybe you are on some old sauce there... Or did you buy the car already fitted with homebrews ?

            Cheers,

PM Sent Paul. It was done in oct 06.

Boost has always been low. Before the homefry, boost would peak at 14psi...

Right - got you now... Yes you are up to date for sure. Sounds like a good old air leak.

have you had a go at doing it after you have removed the ecu fuse for a while to reset the ecu then have a go to see if it has put it in some sort of safe mode although i would have thought it would be lower then..
