    Rebuild Finished but still problems

Well it nice to finally drive the car and have passed the MOT.

    BUT

On WOT im getting alot of oily smelling but not massivley blue smoke, it quite white. Which worries me.
Something that could or could not be connected is the rev guage doesnt drop below 2100 but it is idling fine when warm. Seems to want to stall after initial start up tries to die slowly. And is not smooth at very slight throttle.

I suppose i need to check PCV, the valve in it how much is one for state of mind. I also need to check the throttle damper adjustment. But i wouldnt think that this would effect any WOT situtations.

Oil must be coming through eith turbo, which is original, cant be stem seals as these are new. Could it be blow by on the rings?

Anyway whilst I cry myself sleep and think of a few things are there any BTDT's? Any other sujestions?

    Thanks
    Michael

Is it white smoke or steam you see ?

BY the smell of things you suggest its oil...

    1. Get a compression test and a 'leakdown' test done on the engine.
    2. Renew the PCV valve and any rubber sections - or fit a good cyclone tank
    3. If the turbo oil seal has gone, then you should detect lots of oil in the hose from turbo to intercooler

As for the weird idle... Check the throttle cable is adjusted OK and that the idle switch damper is setup properly - thats the early warning for the ECU to invoke idle settings.

Right well update on this, my brother follwed me and he said it was minimal when it was cold. We stoped waited for it to heat up and he followed again, though this time, again on WOT lots of white/grey smoke, he can smell oil but seems white-ish.

Nothing on idle, or over run.

Though am getting flames on liftoff after WOT. It did this before the rebuild, have got full miltek no Cats. (and it is MTM chip, so i believe runs rich).

How should the PCV look, when i disconected it i can see a spring inside and a hole for the vapours to pass through in the centre section. When should the PCV be shut just underboost? Could this be the problem, but it wouldnt explain why the smoke is white not blue.

Ahh doing my head in think i will sleep on it!
Hopefully have better luck in the morning.

Is it possible this could be oil but being sucked through the turbo seals? I remember from some where that someone had said this was what happened may have been thier problem but i dont think it was ever resolved.
And there was me thinking i would get it back and it would all be perfect

          Hi Michael
If the seals in the turbo are worn a good way of checking this is to let the car sit stationary ticking over at running temp for 15min,Oil is thinner and will pass easier through seals and collect in the down pipe to a degree and when you go for a run just floor it and if anything is sitting there ,you will get plumes of blue smoke

TBH i think your problem is related to water getting into cylinders..If you pop out the plugs and see if any of them are basicilly coated in white/carbon this will pin point it and to which cylinder is burning water

As mentioned before compression testing engine will help

I had simiiar problem with my S2 when i bought it and it was a crack in the head ,rough tick over as plug was fouled and water misting in the cylinder when at running temp as crack opened up enough to create this

Plugs would be my first port of call

          Good luck

P.S Thanks for the parcel ..Thought i was getting expensive wine when i first saw it..
