ADU/AAN/ABY OEM COIL PACKS! SPECIALIST REQUIRED! :p

    a) Hello guys! Does anybody know anything about the stock coil packs??? I needed to take out all the coils from the plate that says 20V TURBO and puth the coils separately from the engine to avoid heat and misfires!!! Well, for the electric part I'm a little confused. So, each coil should have the 12V and ECU signal wire inputs, then the GND and the HIGH VOLTAGE outlet.... am I right?

    b) Ok, the 12V wire (I'm not 101% sure) but would be designated in the coil with the #15, and the signal is #1. The GND is situated one the plate that the coil rests. Good??

    c) On my VEMS setup I have 2 wires that send the continuous 12V power supply and then the 5 ECU SIGNAL wires that goes for each #1 input on each coil pack. I was putting together the 12V PS in a TWO-pin plug. The coils 2,3,4 (#15) to the first pin of that plug, then the coils 1 and 5 (#15 too) to the second pin. That way I have a TWO PIN plug for the power supply.

    d) For the ECU signals, I used two 3-pin plugs. The first one has the #1 of the coils 1,2,4 and the second one has the 5,3 signals... Now those 3 plugas will be connected to the wires that comes from the wire harness.

My question: IS THAT A SAFE INSTALLATION? OR WILL I BURN ALL THE COILS AS SOON AS THEY GET THE CURRENT?????????????????

    thanks in advance,
    Fabio G.

Well, I have modified my ignition "beyond recognition" and have original coilpack gathering dust in garage, I could try to remember to dismantle it a bit tomorrow. I think I should be able to check my thoughts about them against yours. Do you have igbt's in your vems and can run without the original POS?

Oh, and while on subject, you might not be able to convert to 1.8T coils with motronic plugin VEMS. btdt, and it didn't work
All quattro products have been dermatologically tested, and are safe for daily use.

Well the first answer is as far as I know, in 10 years of UrS-car ownership, NO ONE has done what you are attempting. However, IF you were to try, I think you need to keep all the wiring intact (no cutting or disconnecting) and mount the coils in a special bracket mounted to the fire wall. Then, instead of the short "boot" connectors, you would run spark plug wires like a 3B or 7A. Having said that, if you are already having a high boost misfire, then one or more of your coils is weak/damaged and remote mounting won't necessarily help.

I am not sure what the situation is with VEMS but an off the shelf remote coil solution is available from 034 Motorsport. The coils have built-in POSs and come with a new wiring harness:

You would need to also buy the mounting bracket kit.

Well you can make that 1 person in ten years of UR-s ownership It works exactly the same as any other ignition system.

I just started my ABY yesterday after converting it to DTA using the standard coil packs and POS (amplifiers).

Ok, pin out 15 on the coil is 12v but do not connect the ignition signals from the vems to pin 1 because this is the negative for the primary windings. Pin 1 needs to be connected to the POS`s. and you are correct in thinking that the secondary windings in the coil packs are grounded through the coil itself.

The five signals from the vems need to be connected to the input side on the two POS`s. And dont forget to connect the POS to ground, seperate from anything else like the battery negative.

This diagram could probably explain it better than me

But i dont think moving them outside the engine will help with misfires, probably make it worse

Well... Where to start... My VEMS runs internally the Power Transistor Unit so the stock unit is somewhere in my garage.

I was looking for the coil packs that 034 sells but... woah... they are a bit expensive though!!!

I do not know if my coils had any misfire before... They SEEMS to be fine! hehehe I know, I know... I wont know if are fine or not untill they are working LOL

hey GEDU, yes please check out the OEM coils and tell me your opinion!!!

Bro... I can't understand you!!!! I sent you a PM anyway! My vems has the POS internally but now dunno how to connect the coil packs... if I cannot...then I should buy some new coils from old fiats or alfaromeo single and dry coils
