    DIY tuning

Can any tell me what equipment is available at what cost to tune my car myself. I'd like to learn how to and get the equipment. I have access to certain electronic equipment at work but knowing what I need would help me to see if we have the right stuff. Also an "idiots guide to chip tuning" would also be nice. I have soem experience with aftermarket chips fitting and tuning, but would like to keep my URS4 standard management. Any help?

flashing maps to ecus is easy, working out the checksums is not easy...it all depends how far involved you want to get, there is much trial and error if for example you want to try tweaking motronic, expensive too if you fry the ecu or worse still the engine....if your just wanting to flash maps to ecus then there are places you can buy tweaked[generic]maps for every car under the sun,of course you will also need the tools to do this, there are many such as cmd, byteshooter, and cheap ebay ones like galetto

It's better to leave that things to professional tuner who knows its buisness. It's pretty hard to learn Motronic ECU.In our country there is only one man who undesrstand how to tune Motronic ECU, as i said it's pretty complicated.I'm sure you need few years of expiriences with someone who will help you to understand Motronic logic.
It's easily to try with some aftermarket standalone ECUs like VEMS or maybe MS (these are cheaper ones)..There you have support forum and everything you need to understand "how to properly tune engine"

definitively you need for efficient tuning:
wideband 02, EGT would be also good choice...of course most importatnt is lots of knowledge.

hint: get some experienced tuner and pay him to learn you, how to properly tune engine.

I wish you successfull tuning , without blown engines
