    500 bhp bottom end

Right....Can some one confirm this and add to if i miss something out.
I'm aiming for ~500bhp from my 3b. Going to start with getting bottom end sorted first.

First thing i think i want to do is get the block cleaned and honed.
Then buy the correct size piston rings to suit. I'm asuming standard pistons are fine for 500bhp (heard limit is ~650)????
After this is done i'd be thinking about getting engine ballenced. Parts to sent for ballencing would be:
    Crankshaft
    Scatt Rods & ARP bolts
    Glyco Main Bearings
Stock pistons with new rings fitted, & gudgen pins, would new pins be advised or are origonal ones ok??
    Stock 3b Fly wheel
    Uprated Clutch...Any recomendations?
    Crankshaft pully

Please add if i've missed something.

Other parts i'm going to fit are:
    Glyco main bearings
ARP main bolts, any one recomend suplyer?
New oil pump, are there uprated ones on the market? If so do i need it for 500bhp

    Thanks in advance

    this

looks good, pistons are fine for 550hp. New steel headgasket would be in there, the oil pump will do fine.

What about rod bearings? Also get a steel crank pully rather than the OEM , there is no point cutting corners

why buy glyco bearings when you can get RS2 bearings for a small $$ difference and i have heard they are better!
I know PKM uses glyco and lots of others, but on more hardcore projects they use RS2 ones.I used RS2 ones on mine, scat rods,RS2 rod bearings,ARP bolts, mahle pistons and PKM told me that the weakest part on my engine now are the pistons(which are cast not forged) and can take 650hp.Rods can go for more(as javad states) and of course ARP bolts and bearings can cope.

Mahle pistons came with their original rings, and by the look of them they seem the same used in S3 5V engines with a small modification for the 4V valve configuration on the 5cyl engine.

Oil pump i got from 034 AAN type, perfectly good, clutch kit for the DM flywheel from spec(but you should be probably getting the sinter sachs for your application and avoid spec for the flywheel you are going to use),did nothing with the crankshaft.I didnt have to balance anything with this configuration.

Are you going to have your crank check and journals polished?

I thought glycos were good enough for 500bhp. I've alreay got them, but if i need to get rs2 ones i'll get rs2 ones Any one any more info on this??
Was planning sticking with stock pistons. I'm not trying to cut corners or save money but i've no plans to go for more than 500bhp as i want to keep the car so i can drive it on the road. I think anymore than that it would be a pig on the road.

Just had a read of that, quite interesting.
If i were to go down that road would i need to get oversized bearings?
Also where would the best place to get this done and what sort of price is it to have done.

A very light polish will not need new bearings, there are a few comnpanys that do it down south, Not sure about up your way. Best PM Aelred and see if he recomends sending it down
