    Back in the saddle again...?

I am cringing as I write this, with fingers, toes crossed.

Got the car running again. Tom - still after that spacer, as the flange cut off an oil pipe, suitably filed and sanded, gasketed and hylomarred (keeping away from the oil feed hole) has been put on, *seems* to be keeping the oil in - so far.... Need the spacer to be sure.

With the same flange last time, oil was obviously coming out (as evidenced by the plumes of oily smoke burning on everything hot down there.) This time, fingers crossed, there isn't that problem, but just to be sure, I'll put the spacer on when it gets here.

Obviously something never quite goes to plan and 100 yards down the road the turbo->intercooler pipe popped off - not been tightened up - at all but after that, car hits 1.5 bar as it should with the RS2 mapping.

SO fingers crossed, toes, and all twiddly bits. Gonna watch for oil drips (possibly from putting on another oil filter housing and spilt oil - thanks Sal for the housing and pipe by the way - you're a life saver!) and keep an eye on things, won't rag the **** off it (as stopping seems to be an issue after weeks of driving the wife's over servoed Bora Tdi) but things *might* be looking up. We'll see.

Loathe to say IT'S FIXED!!!! and jump around after last times' let down so 'it's nearly fixed, but not jumping for joy yet' should be my current status...

    Will keep y'all posted.

PJ, glad you are back on the road.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

I've just spent 30 minutes getting some S2 rear hubs out of their housing and felt it was time for tea! so it's nice to come in and find some good news for once!

Fingers crossed for you Paul, good to hear you're back and running again!

So how does it run with an RS2 chipset BTW?

          Cheers,

@Mihnea - car runs fine - S2 cams, all rest RS2 except 26/27 turbo. Idle is a little low (700 rpm) and doesn't hold boost at 1.5 bar for too long, which is probably Audi's 'safety margin' for the engine, rather than running 1.4 -1.5 bar flat from 3.5k to 6k+ Obviously big lag, but I suspect the car will be better on fuel once I get used to it (with old map, turbo, rs2 i/cooler, exhaust etc car was running 'big' boost from from 2.5k on). Gonna make sure everything is ok, then figure out how to put lots of cold air onto a cone filter so hopefully it'll be ready to remap come GTI int.

@everybody - not quite out of the woods yet - wanting to run it for a while, make sure everything is ok. Since I got it back, it hasn't had a good run (apart from 50-60mph with a knackered cam and timing miles out, black smoke and banging tappets all way from Essex, which in my opinion doesn't count.) so gonna see what happens over next few days. Thanks for your help, support and advice though (and keep it coming! ) - if not for this forum and the people on it I'd have given up on the car a long time ago, after being the victim of several unscrupulous garages and mechanics

              Cheers PJ

As an update to this me and my long suffering mate Sean (and my car... ummm.... 'Gladys' we'll call it) appear to have cracked it, by jove!

A mixture of (bodge) , (praying) (guessing) appears to have hunted down the oil seepage that was p!ssing me off. Car holds 1.5-1.6 bar on the RS2 chips so no leaks, and have finally gotten round to lagging the intake pipes from intercooler to throttle body with a mixture of (cough, ok, it don't look great...) tin foil and SFS heat ducting pipe - and whaddya know? It actually works! That black pipe used to get red hot before, now the aluminium foil/tape I used is cool to the touch, and (so far) there are no oil drips under the car...

Still got the problem of the blowing exhaust (didn't want to risk shearing off what bolts I've got on there - I'm ham fisted, and can shear any thickness of bolt, nut or thread, simply by walking near a car ) so I'm gonna see if I can come along to the exhaust place on the 12th and ask the friendly fellas there (I hope) for some proper brackets and a bit of fixing in return for a bung

After that? Well my grooved discs are so worn the groove has gone, and they are flat, so they're on the agenda, though no Hispecs I think... of course it needs remapping as well, and I'm sad to say the paint will still be ***** by GTI international, so Tom feel free to take the p!ss

Car goes like a good un, so thanks for your help/advice guys and here's hoping my woes are over (for now...)
