    S8 Top speed unrestricted

    anybody know this?
audi say 152mph other sites say 155mph but nobody states unrestriced speed
    im guessing a 340bhp shoud do a genuine 160+ and a 360bhp should do 165??
does anybody do chips? mods for the s8?
im looking at a 1998-1999 model as funds allow, i want a s6 but ive had a s4 and want to move up the range, newer s6 not for me always wanted an s8 now they are 4-5k its looking more relistic

    any ideas?

theres not a great deal you can do to these engines without spending huge sums of cash, decat and better intake would help,a few tweaks to the ecu should see some small gains too, cracking cars as standard

What are the similarities between the S8 motor and the last RS4 V8? Could yield some goodies to help or an engine conversion.

As far as I know they've both got 8 cylinders and I think the similarities just about end there

Why is the top speed so important I have to ask?

I will also say that there are a lot of people such as yourself buying cheap S8's or 4.2QS's thinking it is cheap motoring - it isn't. When they go wrong, they go wrong, and even though you only paid 5k they still have car 60k running costs.

I was looking into getting one of these before I got the s2, what worried me the most was the panels if anyone dinged it etc as they are very light and thin and the liners of the block as iirc the review I read said they was nikosil (spelling might be wrong) and if they wear are expensive to replace.

I'll try find the review ppc did of them, top speed should still be good just finding somewhere you can use it.

Top Speed is only important a i am going to the ring later this year and i want to top out to see what it does thats all
done a speedo 142mph on cruise control in my Scorpio Cosworth and thats going to be a proper 130mph?
oh plus my mates going in his Jap crap that tops 170mph like to see what sort of a chance i get with him.
            im looking at an S8 on a R 1998 plate at ÂŁ4000
leaves about ÂŁ1000-ÂŁ1500 for problems in the first year and then ill see if i want to keep it or not then.
            depends on petrol prices!!
i know its good for 15-18mpg round town and closer to 25-28mpg on a run and thats better than my 300bhp Zafira 18 round town and 23 on a run
so it will be a saving there.
it will be a 2nd car so not the end of the world if its off the road for a while getting parts etc (or saving to fund parts)
the reason i want an S8 is JUST DO, ALWAYS HAVE simple really.

will only ever do top speed the once or twice whilst on the auto barn then cruise at around 100mph
i did see a 600bhp twin turbo with 6 speed manual in Germany for sale once that had over ÂŁ20k spent on it, im not going that far but would love to see mine faster than the norm.

a mates got 2004 S4 V8 complete running gear and will be taking that to over 400bhp but the engine is going into a Lamborgina Gallardo kit car he is building.
trouble with that is the canbus and eletrics on the car, he has been looking at getting stand alone but due to the cams etc nobdy makes a standalone that will run the V8.
yes for silly money it can be done but he is constantly being told to get the older V8 from the S8 or even the A8
thats as much as i know about either engine!can anybody map

the 1998 S8? or will it only release 10 or so bhp if im lucky?

the s8/4.2q sport are no more costly to run than an s2,only expensive bit is the gearbox if it goes wrong, best thing is to chuck 200bhp of nitrous in,cheapest way to make big power, make sure you check the gearbox out,[vagcom it to identify any gearbox problems]immobilisers can cause problems too due to cracked wiring on the electric adjustable steering column,98 will be a 4 speed box, good luck

is the newer car a better bet then? is it 5 speed then?
                is it a stronger/better car?
might wait untill i have a bit more money and get the newer shape and get a warranty with it.
but by the time that happens ill be an old man

the later facelift cars have a few more gadgets and 5 speed box with gearchange on steering wheel, and an extra 20bhp,essentially the same car though, its not as though the early s8s are poverty spec

panels are aluminium, hugely expensive and only a few bodyshops that will touch them - so don't ding it
